First time visited this thread and I would've known #6. But if I may define it a little, it's from Pokémon Party mini for Pokémon mini but the name of the mini game is Pikachu's Rocket Start and it was also emulated for Pokémon Channel. I know almost every Pokémon game (I don't remember all of the PC games)
You could've but you didn't, so I did it instead And it seems that it was about time for you to get the right answer as your first guess was kinda hilarious (Please, don't take this too seriously): "6 Pokemon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow? Those are the only original Game Boy Pokemon games on Wikipedia." I guess you don't know much about Pokémon so this is quite understandable but there's Elekid in picture which was introduced in Gold and Silver which came for GBC. And Wikipedia isn't the easiest and best way to get information. (Sorry, if I was being rude at some point, I didn't mean to)
Right, I'm just saying I might have said it if @ouenben specifically asked for that level of detail. You made a good point, just not imo an essential one.
A little extra detail is always welcome. Hell it's what I've spent the last 30 minutes doing to round up this quiz:
Okay quiz has been completed!
1. Rainbow Islands - Gameboy Color - mariofanatic128 Rainbow Islands is a hugely popular platformer by Taito and the sequel to another hugely popular platformer Bubble Bobble. The game had seven islands (and 3 secret ones in the arcade version that were only visible when the seven big diamonds were collected from the other islands) and each island featured four vertical platforming action levels where the player had to escape the rising water as the island was sinking into the ocean. The gameboy Color version isn't the prettiest or best conversion but it's a competent enough version of the game to play on the go, until the DS/PSP it was the only way to play Rainbow islands on the go other than the Wonderswan, which most people didn't own. Bizarrely this version has the music from bubble bobble instead of the traditonal music which is a variation of 'over the rainbow'. The game saw another sequel 'Parasol stars' which again saw a change in direction gameplay wise.
2. Slider - Game Gear - MJongo Slider is a somewhat obscure puzzler for the Game Gear, it's kind of similar the gameplay of Qix (clear the screen type of game) where you have to turn so many tiles a different color to finish the level. Some tiles would disappear leaving a hole that you could fall into, there were also various enemies and bonuses and different tile types to be found.
3. Game Dev Story - iOS/Android [Mickeymac] Game Dev Story is one of the more recent games here, released by Kairosoft Co.,Ltd for the iOS and later Android devices for less than £2/$3. GDS is a simulator game not unlike the tycoon games, where you start off a new small time game development company and as you slowly make games and as your income rises you move up the developer ladder making bigger and better games and increasing the size of your company. The game has some amusing parody names for the consoles you can develop for such as: the Intendro Whoops and the Sonny PlayStatus. It's a highly addictive sim that you'll find yourself wanting to 'develop just one more game' before calling it quits for the day.
4. Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan - DS [Mickeymac] Ouendan is the game that inspired my username because I was such a big fan of the game. Published by Nintendo and developed by iNiS (known for Gitaroo man, Lips), Ouendan is a music rhythm game that was released for the Nintendo DS in 2005 in Japan, it would later get a spiritual sequel for western audiences called 'Elite Beat Agents'. This quirky game features male cheerleaders who cheer on distressed residents who have various problems many being silly like 'a washed-up professional baseball player who rescues one of his young fans from, and subsequently battles with baseball equipment and techniques, a fire-breathing golem in a theme park' and some more touching stories like a deceased man's spirit trying to comfort his widow. The gameplay involves the touchscreen entirely and requires quick and precise tapping, sliding and rotating of the stylus along to the beat of the music. One of the more popular import games for DS during it's early years.
5. Puyo Puyo 2 - Neo Geo Pocket Color [SirGreatNose] After the failure of the game gear Sega decided to support SNK's handheld console with their own games like Sonic, Puyo, etc. Puyo Puyo 2 is a pretty standard puzzle game, that is not unlike columns or Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine, with 'puyos' falling down in pairs, which can be rotated, to match up 3 or more of the same colour to score points. The NGPC version is a competent and enjoyable pocket version for those who are a fan of the puyo puzzle games.
6. Pokémon Party Mini - Pokémon Mini [Pandalicious] Pokemon Party Mini was bundled with the pokemon mini and was a colleciton of minigames for users to try out on the system. Released in 2001/2002 by Nintendo. From Wiki: "Features of the Pokémon mini include an internal real-time clock, an infrared port used to facilitate multiplayer gaming, an accelerometer, and a vibrator used to implement force feedback. " Pikachu's Rocket Start is the minigame pictured, where you have to launch off a starting line before another Pokémon. This is why this screenshot was easily confused with another title 'Pokemon Race mini'
7. Sword of Mana - GBA [MickeyMac] Sword of Mana is a remake of the gameboy game Final Fantasty Adventure/Mystic Quest (Depending on territory) which itself is the prequel to the highly acclaimed Secret of Mana on the SNES. Sword of Mana is a real time RPG which feels like a hybrid of Final Fantasy story/world/Character levelling with Zelda like gameplay. The Mana series themselves are a great alternative to RPG players who find the turn based battling and random encounters of traditional JRPGs tedious. The game plays and looks like Secret of mana which is no bad thing though it doesn't quite live up to Secret of Mana, especially in the overall length and exploraiton side of things, it's still an enjoyable handheld RPG.
8. Blue Lightning - Atari Lynx [cheetahman91] I haven't ever played a lynx but this is the first game that came up when I hunted down a title to represent the system. From Wiki: "Blue Lightning is a pseudo-simulation computer game in which the player controls a military airplane. The game was one of the first games for the Atari Lynx" It's a highly rated air combat/simulation game however and supposedly one of the best games of that genre on any handheld.
9. Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars - 3DS [Mariofanatic128] One of the few Ghost Recon games that isn't a tactical 3rd person console shooter. A launch title in Europe for the 3DS, released by Ubisoft. This game shares a lot in common with Intelligent system's "Advance wars" series. Except instead of producing and using generic tanks/infantry units on the battlefield the game's campaign centres around the main characters (Team Ghost), whom can be levelled up, each with their own specialities and abilities. The tactics and strategies used in this game can differ greatly from the advance wars games as letting one of the main Ghosts die results in mission failure. Graphically it's nothign special, the 3D gives an interesting view into the battlefield as if you're looking into a little world full of army men fighting each other. The game is one of the more enjoyable 3DS games out at the moment but lacks proper multiplayer as the only option is hotseat where players pass the system around each turn.
10. Final Fantasy - Wonderswan [Mickeymac/briunj04] Final Fantasy should need no introduction it's to RPGs what Tetris is to puzzlers! Turn based battles, random encounters, levelling up, parties, mana, the long running series began here! This is a remake of the original Final Fantasy NES Adventure, but a lot of work went into this remake. It got a graphical overhaul making it look more like a 16 bit game than a 8bit game, there were many features added like multiple save slots, cutscenes, deletable spells etc. To see more of the changes see here: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy#Family_Compu...
11. Motocross Maniacs - Gameboy [Tasuki] An alternative to excitebike, released by Konami in 1989/1990. Albeit simple, this little bike racer was a fun time trial game featuring nitos, loop de loops, secrets and more. It had multiplayer options and racing against the CPU (total rubber band AI though) Performing stunts in certain areas would often reward players with bonuses including the likes of extra nitro canisters. This game can also be found on the gameboy color collection: Konami collection vol 3 and spawned to sequels on GBC and GBA respectively.
12. Turtle Bridge - Game & Watch [Pandalicious] Game & Watch should need no introduction here on Nintendo forums. Turtle Bridge sees the player moving across a bridge of turtles to deliver packages from one side of a lake to the other. The game is available on Game & Watch Gallery 3 on Gameboy color.
13. Half Minute Hero - PSP [MickeyMac] Half Minute Hero, a hybrid real-time strategy/action RPG/shoot'em up, was released in 2009/2010, developed by Marvelous Entertainment and published by one of three publishers depending on territory. The games premise is that a villian casts a doomsday spell that will end the world and the hero (you) only have 30 seconds to stop them. The game has a series of levels, which get larger and more complicated as you progress. Each level looks like a typical RPG overworld with maps, bridges, etc. That's just one of the multiple modes available in the game. The game also got a release on Xbox Live Aracde in 2011 for 800 MS Points.
Mickeymac is the winner with 5 points, the next quiz is upto him. If he doesn't post it in 72 hours then it's free for Pandalicious to post his own quiz.
OK, duly noted. In the future I'll provide more detail when applicable. So, congrats, @Mickeymac! A PM system would come in handy to notify him that he won. Anyway, I eagerly await his quiz.
Detail isn't required whatsoever, answers just need to be game title and console. but there's no harm in going into a game with some detail, specially if it's a more obscure title.
I can pm him on another forum he uses but I'm sure he'll see this soon enough.
