When I was 9, I got my first game console for Christmas. It was this:
And it came with this:
And me (and my friends) thought this was just the coolest game ever. Battle for Bikini Bottom (which is a rather decent game, at least this version was. I can't speak for other versions as I never played those) was a puzzle platformer, but Freeze Frame Frenzy is a really odd game, now that I look back on it. It tasks you with playing as one of several nicktoons characters, and you go through various locales from the shows they come from, and you have to take pictures of stuff. If you take pictures of out-of-place stuff, it sends it back to where it belongs. It turns out that Invader Zim is behind it all, to boot. It has the stupidest and most ridiculously long final level of all time, IMO as well. It's a truly mediocre game, but I loved it when I was younger. (I'm really tried for time right now, so I'll continue later).
What mediocre or even bad games did you think were cool or fun (or both) when you were younger?
Glover is one of those games I think is really good (and not just a mediocre/bad game I happen to enjoy, like I think the game really works well in an unbiased way), yet I can't explain how. I mean, it's a blocky looking, escort mission 3d platformer in an era that already had a million 3d platformers but...I dunno, I still think it's really good. Despite it's problems I think they really got this game right. I just wish I had a good explanation why.
Fan of: Shin Megami Tensei/ (Classic) Mega Man/ Pokemon/ Batman Arkham/ Metal Gear Solid/Peanuts/ DBZ/ Regular Show/ Power Rangers/The Walking Dead/ Invincible/ Detective Comics/ Secret Six/ Immortal Iron Fist/ Lobo/ Green Lantern
Colors 3D:
Honestly, I have no idea if it has held up well at all or if it was even any good back then, I just remember that it was one of my favorite Genesis games at the time. I probably wouldn't like it now though, since I've developed an immense dislike of isometric action/platform games.
I can't really think of any corny games I enjoyed as a kid. That's probably because my brother & cousins are all older than me, knew what was and wasn't good because of that, and had all the power to choose what new games to get.
Seriously, all of my youngest gaming memories are SMW, Sonic 2, LoZ: AlttP, Primal Rage (which may or may not be corny), Super Mario Kart, Sonic & Knuckles, Kirby Super Star, Super Mario RPG, DKC, Zombies Ate my Neighbors (which may or may not be corny, can't remember), Street Fighter II, & Mortal Kombat.
