I beat Megaman Zero 3. I officially do not get the hype for this particular Megaman series. It was a good game overall but that's because it was a good Megaman game and the majority of its unique ideas to the Zero series I think has been for the worse. Most of the dialogue and story is not awful but not interesting enough to be worth the time reading it, exploring the base was boring for only occasionally new dialogue, the elf system is an unnecessary waste of time that's randomly changed every game. Weapon weaknesses are a waste of time. Also GBA is not the best for music, and this series is a good example of that.
The other day, I beat Heretic on PC. It's basically Doom, if Doom was a fantasy game. The game is divided into five episodes, the first three is Heretic, the last two are the expansion entitled "Shadow of the Serpent Riders."
Beat the base Heretic game. I did start the expansion and it's harder than the base game. Still a good game, one worth playing if anyone likes classic Doom.

@Sunsy Wasn't that a sequel.to Hexan? I remember playing Hexan back in the day on N64 and actually enjoyed it more then Doom. It was a fantasy setting as well which is probably why I liked it more then Doom since I enjoyed fantasy alot more then Sci Fi.
RetiredPush Square Moderator and all around retro gamer.
@Tasuki Prequel, Heretic happens before Hexen. I did get Hexen too, and I like it too. Awhile back I bought the Heretic and Hexen pack from GOG and been playing the games.
Difference seems to be Heretic plays more like Doom (find the key card, shoot enemies, find the exit), while Hexen is more switch puzzle based, which actually grew on me the more I played.

After more than 70 hours, I 100% finished Bananza. I think it is a fun game, especially in the beginning. But now after most fun is gone, I feel disappointed. And I think now I understand the people, who were disappointed with the lack of platforming in Odyssey. This is probably also the first easy Donkey Kong, which I played.
But what really disappoints me is how forgettable it feels. The atmosphere is not very good, I do not feel at home and the music is for the most part just there. Looking back, I feel like Odyssey was much more of an experience at the time, when it released. I beat it 3-4 times, if not even more. I doubt, I will play Bananza again, because I do not like being in the Bananza world. Not my vibes and colours. A Donkey Kong game should also not have empty and depressing songs, melancholic yes, but not this.
Bananza reminds me of Echoes of Wisdom, another fun game, but ultimately it just feels like a dead and nihilistic version of what came before. And both games feel like they play themselves. Ironic that you fight nihilism in Echoes of Wisdom and the VoidCo in Bananza.
Well, I am done with the Switch 2 for now and I will play retro games for a while at least. I need something with a soul.
@Jhena It's interesting that you 100%ed it when your final opinion is a bit negative. Personally I only 100% games I am adoring. If a game starts feeling a bit stale I stop while I am still happy with the game.
I'm not sure if I will 100% Bananza but I'm really enjoying it so far.
I know i wont be 100%ing it. There's way too much in there. Im enjoying it alot, but it does feel like I've been there done that the more I play. I left off at layer 1200 I believe last night, so i think im relatively close to the end.
@FishyS
To me modern games are mostly about completionism, because the rest is mostly stuff I experienced in the past, with the difference, that those games made a lasting impression on me and stayed in my heart.
But modern games are far easier than old games and I can often relax while completing them. It is simple fun, but it is fun. Like 100%ing Bananza. Even so Bananza made me realise, that a game needs more than just being fun. I need to love the vibes of a game.
Edit: I think the way you do it, is cool too. But I think I will just play some retro games for now, without trying to 100% them.
Mario Kart: Double Dash
A game, that I could play every day. Still my favourite, because the vibes are just pure childlike joy. It does not have 400 P-Switches, but it does have the right content. And the music does not consist of mostly remixes.
I just beat Sea of Stars and it was a great RPG. I would recommend Sea of Stars to anyone who likes old school RPG's like Secret of Mana or Chrono Trigger.
@CurryPowderKeg79 ive been wanting to play it forever, i remember its big boom in 2023. how long did it take you to complete it?

I finished Fantasy Life I PS5 just now in straight 9 days in a row.
Woohoo..! 😃
It's a cute Chibi game with Action RPG + ACNH + BOTW (The multiple shrines, ancient technology, 999 Mysterious Slates as parody of 999 Korok seeds)
Now I can focus on Island building to reach 5 stars to unlock more items.
I will make a drawing plan for Fantasy Life island on my laptop with Corel DRAW to make map planning with size 78 x 62 squares.
I give the score 95 from 100 for Fantasy Life I (PS5 version of course, because of 60 fps performance and faster loading time)
I beat undertale yesterday after buying it during the steam summer sale. It felt weird playing a game I pretty much knew all about from lore videos and memes online, but I still had a great time!
Just beat Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. I thought it was great! It very much felt in the same spirit of the og NGs, while still being it’s own thing. Fast, fluid gameplay, with some very nice pixel art. It’s definitely more forgiving than the old games, while still being challenging, (the final boss took me over ten tries for sure). The boss fights in particular were a highlight for me. Nearly every time I succeeded I came out of the fight with just a sliver of health, which is incredibly satisfying. I also like the story seems to take place concurrently with the original game, which has inspired me to go back and play it.
@OldManHermit I'm closing in on the the final stages myself. I think i just finished 4-2? Maybe 4-3. I can't recall because I turned it off a little bit ago. I feel the exact same. I just barely scrape by each boss fight and as soon as i see that red screen with a kitana slash across it, I let out a big sigh of relief. But the boss fights are definitely the best part.
Edit: the only boss I managed beat without being touched was the double headed dragon. I felt like a champ. I did lose 12 or so times before that though.
