I preordered Scribblenauts just to get the chicken hat. Unfortunately, Gamestop had somehow sold out of hats before I picked up my game, so I never got one

Nothing, because if you wait 2-3 weeks most games drop in price significantly and there are very few games out there I would ever pay £40 for...or £30 if it's a handheld game...
I used to pre-order a lot when I was about to get them at around 25% off and get reward points from GAME and I'd usually get it the day before release too. but they've stopped that, and in general I've noticed how quickly games depreciate.
Here's a tip - Never buy anything from Game!
If you pre-order now from Amazon.co.uk or Shopto.net you get the game on the day of release gurranteed, (With Shopto.net if they don't you get three pounds compensation) and the prices are generally £25, not like Game trying to flog you stuff for the full £40!
@3DSneedsRPGs Ah, but I want the classic controller that comes with Xenoblade. You can't get that anywhere else apart from GAME although it is a bit expensive I agree with you for the most part though, GAME is a horrible retailer. The thing that irks me the most is when they post a relatively cheap price on their website only to find its literally £15 more expensive in-store.
TBH I can't believe they sell games at the £40. I think every other shop sells them for the most about £30, possibly £35. Just because they have Game in their name they must think they can overcharge for everything. That's why I know do 99% of my Games Shopping online at Amazon, or occasionaly at Shopto.
I preorder everything, really. It used to be that I'd preorder at my local GAME shop, I did that for Mario Kart Wii & Brawl, but then as I got into online shopping I just do it all on here.
I've currently got Rayman Origins and Zelda : Skyward Sword on preorder. Little apprehensive about Skyward Sword now, because I don't know if all of them are going to come with the gold Wiimote+. Then the great £30 preorder deal I've had locked in since it was announced will be pretty useless!
I don't preorder unless I can get some preorder credit/gift cards or a good bonus.
This ! Did it with Kirby's Epic Yarn, Layton & The Unwound Future, Ocarina 3D, Spirit Tracks, ... With all other games i think you can make a better deal waiting until the day it releases. And in most cases i can wait some days or weeks for a game. I did preorder Ridge Racer 3D without any bonus though. It was a bundle with the 3DS and the game only cost me 30 € this way.
