I've decided to change the "Fire Emblem: Discussion and User-Made Challenges" thread into this.
In general, this thread is for talking about anything Fire Emblem related. Ask questions about the games, share your favorite ways of beating them, talk about your favorite characters, etc... So if you have anything to say about Fire Emblem, say it here.
Well... I always try to keep all my characters alive, which almost always leads me to reset the game (and chapter) to re-do. Does that count?
Oh, and I almost always use the most basic kind of weapon (iron sword, lance, axe, etc.) for each character in battle. I'm just stingy with the "better" weapons I guess.
Keeping all of the characters alive is one of the basics, but using only the E ranked weapons is definitely a tough challenge. Fighting like that against enemy generals/armored knights requires complicated gang tactics (especially if all your people use swords). If you don't mind me asking, which game is it that you use only basic weapons in?

I always try to collect 100% support conversations in one play through. I can't be the only one who does that. It certainly adds a strategic depth to the game when you send specific soldiers to their deaths in order to collect as many conversations as you can. The tricky part is having the left over characters strong enough to fight the final battle. It can be challenging but it's fun.

Sacred Stones. I always over-level my characters at that tower place, then kill all of the "basic" enemies with basic weapons (though I do occasionally use D-Class and C-Class weapons on stronger enemies and bosses). Maybe I will try using only E-Class weapons when I continue my playthrough of the game.
@Qwikman & Bass That's understandable. I'm actually in the middle of my first play-through in Sacred Stones, so I know how tight money can get when you are fighting in the early stages. Throw in the fact that the Tower of Valni kills your weapons while giving you little profit, and that makes basic weapons the better choice for Towering.
@Gamesake Ha! I laugh at all of the people that you have to kill off to get Ike's conversations. That does sound tough, especially when figuring out the order in which you have to kill off your people so that you can get all of the conversations. I've never tried that, so that may be my next challenge for PoR(if it's actually possible, that is).

@SSBbrawler That sounds impossible unless playing on FE7, but that's the game that you have in mind, isn't it? The main killer here is that you have no healers, so if your characters go berserk you can't save them.

@Qwikman: I do the same with my weapons in all my FE games, SS, PoR and RD (and there's no bonus experience in PoR and RD). They're cheap and last a while, and I'm stingy with both money and higher weapons. But I play VERY slowly, so I make sure I'm going to be fine before I make a move, and my character's not going to die. I'll let them get close, but not die. If there's no other way to keep someone alive, though, I'll use a stronger weapon. So usually by the end of the game, I've got all my higher weapons still there. They're used and some are almost broken, but they're all there.

I was watching a documentary on the Pentagon and one of the men they interviewed said war is like a game of rock-paper-scissors. Looks like Fire Emblem's weapon triangle has real military credibility. Unless the guy they interviewed was just a big fan of Fire Emblem.
I've actually been thinking about how Fire Emblem relates to real life war in some ways, such as: a general needs to know his own unit's strengths and weaknesses, war usually works in "one side moves, the other side reacts" phases (any RPG, actually), there are times when to and to not attack certain enemies, artillery beats anti-air, anti-air beats flying units, flying units destroy artillery (rock paper scissors), etc... I was actually in a documentary done by the Pentagon one time, they asked me how war worked (because I'm a five star admiral) and the first thing that popped into my head was Fire Emblem. I immediately said "War is like a game of rock-paper-scissors". It was a good interview.

I can't agree with that. Fire Emblem is far too simplistic to be a war game. It, and Advanced Wars are great, but they're not Wargames.
Go look at games from Matrix Games or Battlefront. Those are closer to offering realistic military strategy. And turn based gaming is not a close approximation of war at all. Simultaneous Turn Based gaming, where you and your opponent give orders at the same time, and then watch the results before giving out more orders, is more accurate.
To me Fire Emblem is a 'gateway drug' to strategy games. It's basic, basic, basic, but gives you an idea of how they work.
