I still love the fact people are guessing that the mother republication that itoi announced should be 3ds exclusive when it should not be! Why? That would be a slap in the face to wii/wii u owners that don't want it on the 3ds & gave up on earthbounds re-release years ago! With that said I would play wii/wii u vc games (nes, snes) on consoles while 3ds vc games (the never happening gba vc) stay on portables.

Not changing my statements until mario party 1 gets on the virtual console.

Every game not released on the Wii U is a slap in the face in your eyes. The 3DS is selling very well in Japan. Mother never never has sold well, so it makes more sense to put it on the console where it's more likely to see the greatest success.
well that is probably one game I will never get to play unless it is finally release on the VC/Eshop... it's been almost 20 years since earthbound was release right?
if Nintendo keeps up the trend of reviving video games, only 5 more years!
I wish the series would be dead. The business has evolved so much, I'm not sure why people are so persistent on reviving a franchise that is mediocre by today's standards.

Because it's not? In fact, I'm offended by the very idea you've just presented, as it implies that great games should be left in the past. People need to experience history. People should be allowed to experience truly great games. If we left the past behind, what would people have to learn from?
Also have JRPGs actually evolved beyond what was introduced in Earthbound in any positive way? If anything, it seems like JRPGs refuse to evolve, other than becoming more like what Earthbound already was way back in 1995.

There's no demand for these games outside of a select group of people. There's no demand for the genre outside of a select group of people.
I'm not in favor of allocating resources towards ancient games because a tiny group of consumers wishes to relive their childhoods constantly. The business has evolved and games like this are not needed, or wanted.
2D JRPGs haven't evolved, you're right. The business has evolved and left them in the dust, which is why there's not a high demand. The large majority don't care for these games and it's irresponsible for the minority to ask for catering.
If this were an innumerable source of money, don't you think someone would have done something already?
What!? JRPG is evolving?

This doesn't necessarily mean that no one would want to play it. Remakes of other JRPGs were quite successful including Dragon Quest, so maybe a remake of the three games can still happen.
Still not convinced? Think about this: fanboys are stuck in the past too and usually don't want anything more than the same thing over and over again

Dragon Quest has had a TON of releases though. On several systems. That was successful because they have kept the franchise alive ever since it's conception.
The Earthbound series is entirely different. It was neglected and left to die, and now that is exactly what's happened. Sure a certain portion of people would love to play a new game, but unless it's modernized and advertised (rhyming unintentional), there's not a large chance of it catching on and becoming wildly successful.
Given that Earthbound comes with strings attached and extra baggage, it's not worth the risk for most people.
You're talking as if every game needs to be wildly successful. There just needs to be enough demand, and it just needs to be successful enough to make a profit. What, you think NIS, Atlus, and XSEED run a charity? No, enough people are actually buying what they sell to keep them going. And what they sell are extremely niche games. Honestly, as long as they don't throw millions of dollars at the game, they'll be fine with a series revival in this day and age, especially considering the fact that Earthbound/Mother has more fans that your usual lost series.
