Do I find myself actually agreeing with NEStalgia on this topic? Political analysis without seeking a biased conclusion seems to be sorely lost from the regular conversation. It's a lot more productive to drop the hat of blame finding and look for conclusions about how this whole situation was handled. There's a lot of discourse that was intended to backup certain positions without any real basis of accuracy. I know Trump gets a lot of hate for his dalliance with hydroxi whatever but to me that is one sign of actually caring about the people affected enough to take a risk without a ton of hard science.
The deeper reality is that very little of the admonishment towards the public was geared towards genuine safety as much as it was intended to distract people for awhile. Hard to even disagree with their handling when it satiates the public appetite for good news. They want to hear about downward trends, tactics for self-protection -we need YOU soldier to do your part- and a vague notion that all the suffering will be merited in the end for a worthy cause.
I disagree entirely with the premise that there is a woe betide us viral calamity around the corner, staring us in the face. So many other diseases have weathered their toll on the population, this one is just timed during a political cycle and has the public gaze. The notion of trapping people in their homes as some kind of larger health measure is sick, and would have a severe disproportionate effect on the less privileged; very likely they would garner nothing, and in fact lose what little income trickle they have been able to manage. Government handouts are a controlled bankruptcy measure and it's not the time to experiment with our ability to distribute social aid where people's lives are concerned. That's the whole conceit of freedom - to protect the common man from the tyranny of government so that even in the worst conditions there is a path for imitative to preserve yourself economically.
@NEStalgia Leadership starts at the top and works downward. The reason we point the figure where we do is because he has the power to affect change - any president does. Yes it's a problem that people lower down the chain ultimately go along with it. But as a student I was taught, and live by this concept - you can delegate authority, not responsibility. If you are a leader, and those under you do something bad, you still bare that responsibility. If you're not okay with that, if you cannot deal with that, then you are not fit for a leadership role. I don't care that other people think differently, as far as I am concerned, on this topic - they are wrong. No one belongs in a leadership role if they cannot deal with the responsibility that goes along with it.
Furthermore there is no bi-partisan because there are no parties in America. It's all a sham. It's just a popularity contest among which members of the ruling elite get to have the titles. America is ruled by a corporate oligarchy, a modern day aristocracy. Neither party represents the public and neither party care about the public.
I've probably already gotten too political with this comment and it might get deleted - and if that happens - fair enough.
But what scares me is that, even with this pandemic, most Americans still think they live in a Republic, still think their party is "theirs" and cares about them - or at the very least, cares about the same issues. They don't. No one in the ruling elite cares at all about the masses. It's a popularity contest between which faction of the elite can better manipulate the public for their own profit.

@Heavyarms55 I don't mean that those under the top are going along with it. I mean the enemies that supposedly oppose him overall, and oppose him on his covod response.... Actually don't. And never did. All leadership just wanted, and intended, herd immunity from the start. The rest was just a show of resistance for political points. He's not a lone voice saying to ignore the disease work followers just going with the program. His enemies ALSO have the same line of thinking, except they stage elaborate shows of not while pointing fingers. Trump, Cuomo, Murphy, DeBlasio..... Their covid plan.... Isn't different. It never was. They just made a temporary show to pretend they were for anti-trump points. That's what's terrifying. And actual response we had was never for controlling the disease. It was for power plays and all based on lies. The national response has, in actuality, been to ignore it. But if you're on an antiTrump ticket, make a big show of really being about safety while otherwise planning to ignore it.
Which ties in with the rest of what you said which I agree with and have said similar things before. Were 100% in the same page on the "monoparty", bought and sold. Heck it practically has a price catalog right in the paperwork.
I'd like to take a moment to quote ThanosReXXX (who I won't tag into this thread) who once relayed an expression that is apparently used in the Netherlands "the world has gone diploma-horny." Credit to the Dutch for most accurately stating the sad state of the world.
Oh, you silly mortal... Do you not know that the universe whispers to me?
I browse this thread every once in a while, just out of a morbid curiosity, I suppose, so I was bound to find out my name being mentioned. But in general, I also do seem to have a knack for sensing when I'm mentioned, for some strange reason. I don't even understand that myself, half of the time, but it kind of compels me to find out the what's what of it, and I usually find out where it's coming from. Must be the uber-empath in me, I guess.
Or otherwise, I'm kinda like that little fairy tale imp, in that way. Call or mention my name, and I will appear.
Anyway, it's not so much a Dutch saying, but more like something of a catch phrase, that's being used by opposing media, or people that, for whatever reason and regardless of how street smart or experienced they are career-wise, can't find a job because they don't possess the desired amount of silly, meaningless paper certificates. It's actually one of the reasons I started working for myself, instead of continuing to knock on doors of companies to apply for a position that now requires several diplomas instead of "just" my 15+ years of actual, professional experience in the field.
But oh, how that ultimately all turned on me when this whole pandemic situation landed... I wouldn't even know where to begin, but I imagine you can fill in the blanks for yourself, without me having to paint the picture for you...

I can tell the reopening isn't going as planned when the disease is back in the headlines and the race war is in opeds.
Meanwhile speaking, genetically, of what our conversation above was about, I'm reading the NL comments in that one article and see nothing but finger pointing along party line concepts and taking point catch phrases by people who see themselves as the enlightened ones...... By imitating prefab constructs provided to them by their team captains. I cringe particularly when people who don't even understand the entire structure of what they're talking about, and can't think beyond the good guyz v bad guyz team sandboxes claim "lack of education" is the root. Maybe too much "educating" is the problem.
Sadly due to their stance on handling the disease I find myself temporarily allying.... But in reality anyone who can't see past left v right paradigm is the whole problem... Far worse than their least favorite politicians. Without their useful idiocy the politicians would be nowhere.
Telling them that their favorite good guyz team is ALSO deciding to sacrifice people for the economy and that there's no difference in the two parties covid policies at all would probably be violently rejected despite the reality in front of them. They believe the safety theater, hook line and sinker. Head to the movies. It's safe now! We closed them for a few months to make sure it's safe now! Ignore the bar closures due to the radical spike upon reopening. This is different from that!
Oh my gosh, I think I have C19. One of my reports in the lab, on evenings, came back positive. I had contact with him during shift change all last week. And now started feeling weird last night and this morning. Could be paranoia once we learned he might have it, or it could be I have it.
Kinda starting to freak out a bit. I'm 36, most deaths were for the elderly, but still.
It feels like... the onset of opiate withdrawl. Probably not something most can relate to. But the last time I felt like this was about 10 years ago, 8 hrs after doing heroin. Not WD, but just the weird sensation in your brain from the beginning onset. Exactly the same feeling. I could never forget that feeling. Except now substances are not involved. It's like... the brain is releasing the same chemical in response or something.
Feel not light headed but, kinda like everything is a dream. If that makes sense. Could be from not hyperventilating but, something like that. The paranoia makes manifest in weird ways. Or maybe this is that weird loss of taste they speak of. Kinda feels that way.

Really sorry to hear, @JaxonH. Did you call your doctor? (if you had a test, maybe you already talked to your doctor) Or, what did your doctor say?
Chances are high that you should be ok. But still, the challenge with covid is that people spread it with mild to no-symptoms. Hope everything goes fine, for ya
Pasted a quote from the article. I put the interesting part in bold, which is a positive note for following guidelines.
This afternoon, Dare County Department of Health and Human Services Director Sheila Davies sent out this firmly worded message stating that a large gathering is responsible for a number of recent COVID-19 cases in the county:
I want to share a few important messages for our community regarding the recent increase in positive cases of COVID-19 in Dare County. It is imperative that people follow the guidelines and maintain social distancing and limit direct contact with others outside their household members to slow the spread of the virus. The majority of our recent cases are locals who acquired the virus by direct contact with others. The majority of the spread was not at the grocery store or restaurant, but rather through direct contact at a large gathering where people were not maintaining social distancing and were not wearing face coverings.
While the majority of those who recently tested positive are only experiencing mild to moderate symptoms, we are already seeing the virus spread from those who were at the large gathering to their household contacts including an elderly household member who then required treatment at the hospital.
For context regarding this region, much of Dare County, the beach towns, are low population density, mostly residential homes (almost no hotels), with few restaurants on Hatteras Island. People typically buy their groceries upon arrival, and cook most all meals at home, rather than visiting restaurants daily.
@JaxonH . That's terrible news. And this is why it's absurd for them to be opening things at this point... While it's still everywhere, And why i refuse to go anywhere. Like you, even if i didnt get it, id be freaking out thinking I did. Heck I get paranoid for two weeks on the rare occasion i buy food at this point!
Not sure what to say..."good luck" doesn't really help...
@NEStalgia
I took off the rest of the week. Should know for sure by Monday (that’ll be 11-13 days from suspected contraction). If symptoms get worse, I’ll be out a few weeks, hopefully it doesn’t get serious. I’ve been hoping I just imagined it all and anxiety has caused manifested symptoms but, I’m thinking that’s not the case, I can feel something is not right inside.

Had a COVID scare at work yesterday too. My boss had to send an employee home cause she had contact with some one who had COVID. Luckily she went and got a test and it was negative.

I was thinking that too, but now I’m almost certain. Woke up this morning and feeling noticeably worse. All consistent symptoms from the COVID Positive reddit. I still don’t feel terrible, but maybe a 4/10 on the icky scale. The throat feeling is now permanent, and just feel like crap all over. But not too intensely. It’s still early on I suppose.
Using zinc lozenges though. This is something everyone should read about.
@JaxonH The thing about COVID infections is how long they can last, and how drastically your symptoms can change on a dime. This could be all you ever feel, or, y'know, it could get quite worse. But unless you have some sort of underlying condition that's likely to intensify the symptoms, you'll probably be fine.
Still, if you have a pulse oximeter, be sure to use it when you're tracking your symptoms.
@Ralizah
Hoping it stays mild. Lots of encouraging reports of mild symptoms. But then the scary ones where someone in their 30s just gets worse and worse and dies.
@JaxonH Feel free to hang out with all the tough guys that are doing their duty and not giving into fear because it's all a big nothing. I suggest LAN parties. With doors that lock from the outside.
Seriously, though, keep us posted as you're able. If you have any symptoms at all you're already doing worse than the people that got off without any....hopefully you're in the "majority" that doesn't end up in bad shape. I don't know if your prior medical history counts as preexisting conditions or not, esepecially as ultimately covid can become a vascular disease, and I don't know if herion leaves permanent affects in that regard or if it reverses. Best of luck.
@NEStalgia Monday night
First symptoms manifest. Jolted awake on cusp of falling asleep multiple times by sudden feeling in throat or rushing sensation in head.
Tuesday
General feeling of a slight dream like state and ever so slight feeling of something feeling off. Slight 30-45 min bouts of light fever, could feel inside forehead battling furiously to fight something, but didn’t feel TOO hot to the touch, just a bit. It was the internal feeling of fatigue from head battling it out. Then fatigue, wanting to close eyes. Few moments throughout day of slight runny nose then goes away. Same for feeling in throat.
Wednesday
Feeling slightly worse. Dream like state continues. Fatigue. Bouts of shortness of breath. More bowel movements. Anxiety and fear kick shortness of breath into overdrive. Start taking zinc lozenges, vitamin C and D, and drinking lots of fluids. Rubber band feeling around head. Ever so Slight headache at night.
Ordered Zinc Sulfate lozenges and Quercetin, which is an Ionophore which carries the zinc across the cell membrane. Numerous randomized double-blind studies show definitive statistical evidence that zinc reduces the duration of viruses including SARS-CoV. While no studies have been done for SARS-CoV-2, it’s a logical conclusion that it would also work and likely does. When analyzing the cost benefit ratio there is little to no risk or cost, yet a very probable likelihood of reducing duration and potentially giving the edge needed to prevent death.
Problem is, Zinc is +2 positive and repels against the cells which are also positively charged. So you need an ionophore to transmit the zinc into the cell (not to say zinc doesn’t work alone, small amounts still make it in and lozenges specifically treat localized areas in the threat). Turns out, surprise surprise, that’s what Hydroxychloroquine does. It’s an Ionophore. And suddenly everything makes sense. In the studies were they were looking at hydroxychloroquine without using zinc, results would boil down to how much zinc was in the persons bloodstream, meaning you could get mixed results depending on the person. But if you use them together... that’s the ticket. The Hydroxychloroquine isn’t the active agent. The zinc is. The Hydroxychloroquine just ensures it’s able to get where it needs to go to prevent replication of RNA.
I looked up more readily available, over the counter alternative ionophores, and Quercetin was the top of the list. I don’t think it works as well as Hydroxychloroquine but, it’s OTC and, even small amounts of an Ionophore can cause a greater response alongside zinc than simply multiplying the zinc does 10 fold.
I STRONGLY encourage everyone to watch these two videos. Absolutely crucial scientific information about zinc inhibiting virus replication and the need for an Ionophore, with results shown for Hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine and Quercetin.
Zinc discussion starts at 1:38
But there are some other theories, and I think it’s important to get a balanced view. Read this for a different take on the ionophores.
A friend of a friend tested positive and was hospitalized. And a friend has several coworkers out due to testing positive. Meanwhile the numbers are shooting up in Arizona, where most of my family now lives, and Texas, where my best friend lives.
People are talking about a 2nd wave and I'm like, "when did the first end?"

Ya it’s never really went away, but it does seem like there’s been a recent surge. Nearly hit 200,000 new cases in a single DAY. That’s insanity. Even now, well over 150,000 - 175,000 new cases every single day. It’s unreal.
It’s gotten to the point multiple people at my work have gotten it (I’m the 3rd one in a week). I myself got it. It feels like before it was dancing in the shadows. But now it’s making its move.
