So who's ready for CES this year? I'm getting all my news from the verge this year and they'll be having nightly podcasts recaping events. http://www.theverge.com/ces
Hands on with Acer's new Ultrabook. It won't be out until Q4 so it should be running W8 by then.
Looks good and I like the rounded shape of the monitor piece. Only problem is I can't tell if the keyboard is backlit and the I/O ports are in the back and not on the side.
WAT!

Ultrabooks? is this another netbook fad? Those netbooks were only good for browsing the net and other simple tasks.
No regular laptops just super thin and using SSD.
But that's what a netbook is right? Just a super-thin laptop.
The MacBook Air started this trend a few years ago, and the other companies are just now catching up?
No its not a netbook. Netbooks weren't thin.
The Price is what held them back. The First Gen air had crappy specs and sold like crap. Apple didn't start pushing until late 2010 when they were able to get reasonable specs and a decent price.

@tendo You just said netbooks can only web-surf and now your saying they're exactly like laptops, just thinner? Laptops can do a lot more than use the Internet, you know.
I already have one almost that thin (far less than 2", closer to 1" for the lid + key/motherboard together), the HP Pavillion DV 2 series and it over heats daily, if not more often, not to mention it is sealed so no repairs are possible even by the company. And mine is a full laptop not a net book tease...cost me $1000., what a waste of time and money. You'll get burned by sitting it on your lap for less than one minute... that's how hot it gets.. I mean "go - to - the - Hospital". burned. Smaller chips = higher heat, why do you think servers are kept in refrigerated rooms? I'll trade for any decent desktop right now.
You guys realize That Ultrabooks are using the Sandy bridge and Ivy Bridge chip sets that reduce cooling. Ultrabooks also don't use optical drives and if optional no HDD in favor of SDD. (or a HDD/SDD combo)
Also I've used a Macbook air for a Bit and it doesn't heat up. That was running apenture/TF2 while music from itunes.

I'm not comp. savy, I just know my laptops tended to overheat. If it isn't nearly as hot, then I might be interested in getting one once they're cheaper.

I'm writing this from an Acer Aspire One netbook, and they can do lots of things. I can play an HD version of Angry Birds Chrome, no problem. However, my netbook can't run HD YouTube videos very well. Just use 480p w/ that. Just remember, netbooks are slightly weaker laptops, at almost half the price, and half the size. No optical drive in these, though, but because so many things use internet cloud services, I can just get music from the iTunes cloud. And Ultrabooks are just as powerful as most $500-$600 laptops, and even smaller than netbooks, but still no disk drive. Windows 8 should be Windows 7, perfected, and w/ tablet optimization. OLED screens are very expensive, but w/ unbeatable results.
@VincentV I use an Aspire One for schoolwork, and it's good for mainly just that, school work and light web browsing. I wouldn't want to do a whole lot of gaming on it due to low specs and small hard drive.
