i'm a huge fan of music videos. i think it is a very interesting form of media and storytelling. i also study media science so i will probably write a term paper about this medium some day. i know a lot of excellent music videos, but i'm always eager to see what other people like.

what are your favourite music videos and why?
RULE: only one video per post (and it would be nice if you also say something about it, why you like it so much and what you think is special about it)

Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

it's not an epic video, but i love how it tells a message through pictures. dressed and (almost) naked people on the one side and pondering about group acceptance and accepting yourself on the other side. plus: it's just an awesome song

It can only be Thriller by Michael Jackson. It changed the HIStory of music videos. It was groundbreaking in so many ways. It was a mini movie, brilliant choreography, it was big budget, over $1 million which for the time was huge and by far a record(which I think Michael funded himself), famous director(John Landis). Music videos up until that point were an afterthought and monotonous. The song and the video have stood the test of time, nearly 35 years later.

Michael Jackson - Thriller (Official Video)

It's influenced countless artists since, it smashed numerous Guinness Book of Records records. It's so important and influential that it was inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, the first and only music video ever to receive that honour.

This one always comes to mind for some reason:

I guess it must be the story...

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I've always liked music videos that are a bit more uplifting. You know, the ones where some old bloke jumps out spontaneously start dancing? Eg this one by The Avalanches:

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

I totally forgot this song until it was replayed on my local radio this morning. I even played this on acoustic for my 7th grade guitar class. lol

This reminds me so much of middle school and the first time I got rejected by a girl (I don't blame her, I was all schlubby and didn't care for how I looked then----in HS she got preggoes and 5 years ago I saw her on Pornhub as a legit professional pornstar lol).

I can't choose because I have dozens and dozens music videos that I really love but yeah, the one that came instantly is this one...

Beautiful photography, outstanding use of lenses, creative outfocus and insane vision of the song.
Awesome job here !
