So what’s the size of everyone’s backlog?
According to my backlog group it’s 98 games...yeah it’ll take me awhile.

I don't have an exact number but it should be around 10 games on Switch and 20 games I got on PC for free. (which I mostly would not have gotten otherwise, as I just have a simple laptop not built to run games well)

I've stopped trying to track it. I figure as long as I play more games than I buy each year, it'll catch up eventually. My big problem is that I've historically had a weakness for really great sales, so I've tried to resist a bit on that front. Also, I have a "backlog" going back to the late 90s, and there are a lot of those games I'm just not hugely worried about playing at this point.

Currently, I am at 0. It's a good feeling to be completely caught up, especially knowing how huge this year will be for me in terms of new games.

I think my backlog of physical Switch cartridges isn't too big at the moment as I tend to only buy what I'm pretty sure I'll get around to actually playing but if you include eShop games it's a bit out of control. Been playing like 100 different Switch games a year and it's still never enough to make much of a dent.

I have a tendency to replay games in my collection. For example, even though I have hundreds of Switch games I haven't played beyond testing whether or not the cartridge is functional, I'm playing through Dying Light for the fifth time because...I love that game. So from that perspective, between the Switch, PS Vita, 3DS, and PS4....I have well over 1,000 games I could (should?) be playing.

Id have to lie but my backlog is around 1400~1500 if you count any Digital Purchases as well.

That is however, over all the Systems i accumulated over the Years.

@Magician That's quite impressive to have over 1K games just seperated over 4 Systems only, it makes me look like nothing (lol)

On Switch I've been trying to only buy new games if I'll have time to start playing them right away, and I've mostly succeeded. Off the top of my head I think I only have 3 Switch games I've paid for that I haven't played at all yet (Starlink, Horace and Ni No Kuni), though there's also a few other games I need to go back and finish, or play part of the game I haven't started yet (e.g. Xenoblade Future Connected).

With older consoles I tend to just buy games to add to the collection whenever I see them for a good price, even if it will be a while before I play them. Between Wii, 3DS and Wii U I have maybe a couple dozen games I haven't played yet, but that number will grow a lot as I buy games before the eShop shuts down. And on PC I think I've played every game I've bought individually but I have hundreds of other games from Humble and itch.io bundles.

@Magician Me too! I have so many games that I have picked up, tested out just to make sure they are ok and then plan to get back to only to find myself playing through an old favourite for the god knows how many'th time.

I know there are games in my back log that I just wont get round to playing again as I don't even get that much time to game these days but having good intentions is still better than accepting defeat and selling up.

You can add me to the 1000+ list, and it's only getting bigger. So few of the games in my collection have I actually 'beaten', and even most of them I don't consider them finished with, whether I just want to play through them again, or have side missions/collectibles I want to work on. I can't think of many games I own and have beaten, or just haven't played in years, that I wouldn't happily play again and look forward to doing so. I know it'll never happen for everything I have, but it doesn't need to - I'm supporting the industry I value deeply and surrounding myself in wonderful entertainment.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

I don't often dabble in my backlog, but I've recently started playing Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem again (I actually had to look it up as I forgot which one I even had) and I'm nearly done with it after all these years! (I bought it not long after the release of the 3DS)

I've also been playing Spelunker Party, for which I have the Japanese physical edition (which is Japanese only, sadly). Fortunately, the game is straightforward enough for non-Japanese speakers, and I've made quite a bit of progress after a 4.5 year hiatus.

I also started playing it again to gauge whether or not I really wanted to import Spelunker HD Deluxe (for which there is a demo in the Japanese eShop, with full English support), and I quite enjoyed that, so I decided to get back into Spelunker Party in anticipation of its arrival.

My backlog is embarrassingly long though. It would probably take a few lifetimes to get through it all.

If you have a large backlog of games then does this mean that they were not that interesting, because if you really was that interested in playing then surely you would have already played it! I don't have any backlog but I have appreciated loads of games that I would have a go on if the opportunity arose, but as I didn't actually commit to buying and playing then I guessed I wasn't that interested in the end.
So I guess I would ask if people's backlog is based on games you own, or if it's just a list of games?

@dew12333

Yes to both. I've continually cycled games in and out of my collection over the years. But I only keep those games I enjoyed so much that I know I'll be getting an equal amount of joy playing through the experience again sometime down the road. My Switch collection would be closer to around 1,300 rather than the 908 it's currently sitting at had I not cycled out those games I knew I'd never want to touch again. And at the same time, the current count of 908 doesn't include the 100+ Switch physical releases I have on preorder, most of which are boutique releases made available to purchase only for a limited time or limited quantity.

@Magician Wow, I can only imagine how big your collection must look. I tend to obsess over individual games that I spend over amounts of time playing them, them I cannot bring myself to sell them. I also find it fascinating that people are so interested in playing so many games, I find games all to similar in how they play that I discount them due to already playing something similar before. Doesn't really make sense that I am Nintendo fan as that would infer that I do like repetition, but I guess they do try and innovate in some way to change it up a bit. Just out of interest, what is the draw to play so many games?, Are they always the same genre? And just how much room does it take up to have all those games!!
