I myself are 30, with a little family. I love alot of thing, and retrogaming is high on my list. But i take pride in never letting marioland & co steal my attention from my Girlfriend, daughter, friends, work, chores ect. I try to plan my gaming in the evenings, when all chores are taken cared off, the house is clean, my kid is asleep and my gf is entertained, and that, for me makes my gaming experience much more fulfiling.
I`m just wondering how many of you (if any?) in here are struggling with the opposite?
I'm like you in a sense that gaming doesn't take complete control of my life. I love Nintendo, but I'm not addicted to it. I get important tasks completed first before I play video games. Friends, family, and life matter more than Mario.
Well said it is always important to balance gaming with other things. Cause too much gaming can cause eye damage. And yeh i feel the same way about movies about no getting excited about them but their great nonetheless especially comedies and actions. I game around 3 hours a day if i can find something else to do that is. Back when i first started gaming and didn't have a memory card for my ps2 i gamed the entire day cause i could,t save lol. Try to get involve in sports and hanging with friends an stuff to stop gaming
The buying side of things gets out of control for me, but I'm trying to notice the way I feel when I'm in one of my bad patches and snap myself out of it.
Ummm yeah wow I guess thats cool with you but I would have killed that guy by now.
In all seriousness I probably play one of the easiest games that a person can get addicted too and I have heard many stories of how peoples lives are ruined by said game. I play World of Warcraft but I only play about 2 to 3 hours a night and like you thats after the kid is asleep and my chores are done for the day and if the wife doesnt want some time with me like either shes asleep as well or working on school work. Sometimes I dont even play it for a few days due to having other things to do or I need to get up early the next morning.
Just like anything it depends on the person video games can be as addicting as drugs, alcohol, and sex. You just have to know how to moderate yourself thats all.

well i play every day more then 5 hours mostly but yeah im 20 and just trying to figure life out for my self i figured once i get it all sorted out i may not have as much time to play as i do now so im just going to enjoy it while places dont give me a job etc etc etc
I have been bouncing around temporary jobs a lot, so my gaming fluctuates with my hours. I do have a pretty active social life and don't watch TV very much, so I can go days (with the exception of 10-20 minute bursts during my metro commute) without gaming, and then days with lots of games.
Game sales get me though. I have too much of a backlog for my own good.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
My gaming habits are under control, except maybe when it comes to buying games.
Now if you asked about my internet habits... D:

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
I also get up at 3a.m. to go to work and don't get home until 4p.m. 5-6 days a week. A house with 2 acres of land, and a pool. Oh, and two Golden Retrievers! Yep, my gaming time comes second or all of ^^^^^^^^^^ that goes away!
I have my gaming habits under careful watch. I mean, I have school, homework, social life (like friends etc), gym, my girlfriend, and my job. So Im pretty good when it comes to my gaming. One of the only times several years back that I've went out of control was when Tales of Symphonia came out, god I didn't sleep for about 3 days. That was terrible.
Currently playing: Tales of Symhonia (again), Tales of the Abyss 3DS, Fire Emlblem Fates, Majora's Mask 3D and Xenoblade Chronicles X.

@Emil987... The big difference with getting hooked on a game for a few days and longterm is quite drastic. I've seen a serious gaming addiction with my own eyes and is very disturbing. I've seen a good friend of mine so addicted to World of Warcraft that we could have 20 people over at his house and he would barely acknowledge anyone, and wouldn't even eat any of the food until hours after everyone has left because he would "be there in a minute when I finish this raid!"
I used to think that gaming addiction was a joke until I actually saw it. He isn't the only person I know with this issue either! I actually work on of the most dangerous jobs in the world outside of being around here and Movemodo, and I'll come home work around the house a bit, and then if me and the wife don't have something to watch I'll go play a game. If I have a review to work on then I'll always knock it out quickly, but it always comes second in my life.
TIP: You guys will think I'm crazy but if your married and want to get some extra game time in there is a way to do this. I get up at 4:30am Saturday and Sunday. That gives me 4+ hours before my wife rolls out of the bed. You get more game time (hassle-less) by going to bed early and getting up earlier!

All my News and Reviews in One convenient place!
Considering all 3 of my jobs require me to play video games, it's pretty much all I do. I work in a video game shop that deals with all generations of consoles and handhelds, so I am always playing titles from all generations so that if a customer asks a certain question, I have the experience to back up my answer (As well as a wealth of knowledge). For my second job, I write game reviews for another local source, and considering the games I review are by request, I've covered most consoles. For the obscure titles and consoles, I am usually able to attain them using my main job. Third, I'm a gold farmer in WoW for some extra money. It pays for my farming and playing accounts, as well as pay for my other hobbies like Magic: The Gathering, or Metal shows, or more games!
Considering I game when I wake up, when I'm on the can, on my way to work, during work, on the way home from work, and whenever I'm home, I'd say I have it under control. On average, I'm getting in about 10+ hours a day of gaming across mainly my 360, laptop and DSi.
Today for example, I was up until about 5 in the morning playing Monday Night Combat (XBLA). Woke up at 1PM, played some WoW until now (4PM). 5 hours from MNC, 3 hours of WoW,already at 8 hours and have another 8 hours before the days end.
