Never seen Code Geass. Actually, I need some help with a recommendation. I only have enough money to buy either Chobits, Berserk, Escaflowne, or Revolutionary Girl Utena's Black Rose Saga (it's pretty damned expensive on amazon). So which one should I get if any? I've heard good things about Escaflowne and nothing but praise for Utena, but with only $30 for anime, which would be the best buy?
Buy the Now and Then, Here and There Collection. It is one of the most amazing and emotional anime series of all times. However, if you had to pick one of those you selected, I would go with Escaflowne. I've actually watched a few episodes of it and it is very good.
Yeah, I've been reading things about how Code Geass is great, but all I see is teens in mechs. That's not exactly a bad thing, mind, but it doesn't look like some extremely epic tale of grand proportions.
Watch it and find out how wrong you are.
Very well; Code Geass is my next anime series. I really have nothing else to watch since I've finished Durarara!! (except for My Ordinary Life [Nichi-jo-whatever-the-japanese-name-is], but that would feel pointless and empty).

I personally find it hard to recommend people buy something they can legally watch for free. That's just me, though. Anyways, I felt Escaflowne had its ups and downs, especially near the end. Berserk, on the other hand was really good for most of the way through, ending aside (which really wasn't that bad).

I agree with everything you said here! However the outtakes on berserk are wrth the price of addmittion alone! Yes they're just that good!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought code Gease was lame. My friends were dissapointed that I didn't like it, but I told them from the get go that I hated mecha anime and war drama bull crap. At least the guys are cute I guess.
But I did mention a lot of thigns other than Code Gease... Does Nintendolife frown on things like Sgt. Frog and Ninja Nonsense?
I don't always give myself signatures, but when I do, you just read it.

No, in fact comedies are pretty popular around here. We probably just didn't read all of your post. I know I didn't.

I'll admit, you have a point about N&T,H&T being legally free on Hulu. As for Escaflowne, I only saw the first two episodes and I thought those were really good, so I guess I'm not quite the person to be discussing it.

I did. I just didn't have time post then. I hear Sgt. Frog is great according to Mickeymac. My old ex really liked it too. I want to watch it, but seeing as I have a bunch of animes and video games to finish I can't afford to start more. I like comedic animes though. Lucky Star and K-on being my absolute favorites. I always watch a random episode of either of those 2 when I'm bored.
So, I watched the first episode of Code Geass and it's not just teenagers and robots...but I'm not seeing much beyond the normal tropes; genius main character who gets involved in some bad stuff, random power given to main character by girl that allows him to be able to overthrow evil, a ton of quirky side-characters that don't actually know main character is involved in bad stuff, and EVERYONE LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE A FASHION MODEL. Of course I'm going to give the series a few more episodes to explain the mysterious power and try to give me a few non-tropes, but I'm not seeing anything revolutionary.

Gad Guard was recommended to me, but I didn't think it was that good, judging from the first few episodes. I guess that's not much to go on, but hey...
Since I specialize in sci-fi stuff, and I at least know you like Mecha like Gundam, I'll stick to those:
Armored Trooper Votoms Blue Comet SPT Lazner Dragonar Fang of the Sun Dougram Macross/RoboTech*
Not exactly a classic, but I though Martian Successor Nadesico was great, certainly worth a look.
I can also recommend some non-Mecha Sci-fi shows if you don't mind:
Anything from Leiji Matsumoto (Yamato/StarBlazers*, Captain Harlock*, Galaxy Express 999*) Anything from Go Nagai (Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Getter Robo, though I actually prefer the remakes/reimaginings like Mazinkaizer, Shin Mazinger Z, New Getter Robo, Getter Robo Armaggeddon, since the originals can be really repetitive) Dancougar Space Runaway Ideon GaoGaiGar
And not exactly a classic, but Gaiking: Legend of Daiku-Maryu* is a remake that I actually felt was much better than the original show it's based on, which was simply titled Gaiking.
RahXephon Dai Guard Parallel Duel Neon Genesis Evangelion
I know the post isn't in this thread, but he was specifically asking for classics. Not that those aren't great shows he should consider watching, just saying.
I got done watching the third episode of Code Geass and I feel like the series shouldn't be a 20+ episode series. I'm getting this impression that if it doesn't end in 3-5 more episodes, it will get bogged down with stupid sub-plots or idiotic fan-service episodes. Of course, I don't know if this is going to happen, but there's some gut reaction in me that's saying that this series has a major percentage of falling off of the tightrope if it doesn't get to the other side quickly.

I've been wanting to get into anime, can anyone recommend a good starting point? I'm thinking about starting with One Piece, because it interests me. Is it any good? Also, could someone give me a link to watch the first episode?
Currently Playing: Xbox 360: Arkham City, MW3, Gears 3, UMV3, Battlefield 3 PS3: inFAMOUS 2, LBP 2. Rachet & Clank: All 4 One, Uncharted 3, Resistance 3 Xperia Play: Crash Bandicoot iOS: Sonic CD, Infinity Blade, Arkham City Lockdown, Mega Man X, Chrono Trigger
One Piece is incredibly long. I guess if you're pretty certain you'll like it then it's worth it. It's an adventure/action anime about pirates, check out a trailer or two. Action's probably a good genre to start at if you're new.
We're not allowed to post links to illegal download sites, but perhaps other Americans will know a legal way to do it. You could always just google "Stream One Piece" and see what that comes up with.
One Piece sounds pretty cool. Action/adventure really interests me, and I've read some descriptions so it sounds cool. I'll probably watch the first episode tonight or tomorrow, if I can't find it I might just start at some random episode.
On a side note, doesn't some guy have stretchy powers?
