Topic: We need an anti-troll measure, little and fun

Yes, that's what i said.
The original Nintendo forums had that in the early 2000, so why not now.

But i'm talking for the site.
How can we allow people to stay and comment every news in the site with a bad grudge against everything Nintendo does to keep doing their posts?

But i'm not suggesting a ban or anything drastic and of bad taste like that but a little funny thing and maybe though provoking just to tip them off.

Pratically: they spit rage in 15 different news with, at least, 15 different posts (one per article)? Then, when they log-in, they will recieve for, say, a week the following message. "Are you sure you want to get angry today?" or "Sure you must like Nintendo to be here."

Something just quirky like that, i'm sure you can pull this off easliy, there's too much angry people and trolls and they ruin big time my enjoyment of a gaming community and gaming.

Sure we need to do something to make realize people how useless is to be a troll and to get angry about something not even real like videogames. Come on.

@Araknie thanks for the post and the ideas, we would certainly love for everyone to be super happy about everything, but naturally not everyone agrees and is entitled to their (negative) opinion.

Behind the scenes we are actively trying to think of good ways to encourage people to be constructive and positive, rather than just being negative, so we'll certainly take your ideas into consideration!

I am not sure what you are asking for but for one thing a troll isn't someone who says something negative about Nintendo thats called an opinion and last time I check people are allowed to have one.

Not everyone is going to agree with one another opinions are going to be different and by posting these opinions or views does that make someone a troll.

For example a clear case of trolling would be if somewhere out of the blue in the middle of say a thread about puppies someone just goes and posts NINTENDO SUCKS and adds nothing to the conversation at hand then you can be pretty sure that is a troll. However if say on a thread talking about the Wii U sales and someone posts I hate Nintendo Wii U cause there are no games for it and I like Sony cause there are games for that, that necessary is not a troll that's just an opinion.

The word troll gets thrown around these days like nothing heck I think half the people that use it don't even know what it means.

Yes this is a Nintendo fansite but here they review and mention the bad as well as the good after all what kind of site would this be if they just reported and reviewed the good.

Lastly if a post does look like a troll thread or comment you can always hit the report button on the post and leave it up to the mods to decide whether its a troll or not.

We have anti-Troll measure - it's called the report button.

I think the report button needs to be more obvious

Thank goodness i said that this measure should be added only when it's over 15 consecutive posts on 15 different articles. And i didn't specify what measures a troll and what not.

Anyway, if people thinks that being angry and trollic in the internet is a matter to be resolved between you and yourself and the internet doesn't really know that a community must be polite.

I didn't said anything against criticsm, i didn't even use that word. Really Tasuki, it's because people like you are willing to take whatevs from anyone that i don't like loose communities like this one.

When someone angeres or trolls you start a flame, and that's against the rules of the site, doing anything is saying that rules doesn't mean anything.

I'm starting to get sick of people not accepting no-one opinion in everything, i want to game and have fun. You don't even know how important gaming is for me.

Really, i don't even want this measure anymore i'll just delete my account and watch the news, this was the last community i wanted to be part of, now it's just another news site for me.

I was banned for a week because i sweared 6 times over the course of a year. So this wants to be a kid friendly site and then allow angry people in? Doesn't make sense.

NL should be using some of that ad revenue to buy prozac for those users posting negative comments, its the only way to rehabilitate them.

Hmmm, I haven't detected a particularly high level of negativity lately, especially when compared to the recent past. Maybe I'm just better at ignoring it.

I dig Reala's idea a ton though.

@Araknie: In terms of profanity, I've got seventeen instances from you since our filter was implemented this past May. We post little notes every time we remove it from everyone's posts here at NL, and when that doesn't seem to work, we move to a temp-ban 'wake-up call' — which is what happened in your situation. Profanity is an easy thing to moderate, it's very cut-and-dry as opposed to someone who may or may not be trolling.

As for the situation at hand, while we'd love it if everyone here were to love Nintendo, we do not require that of our users. So long as they're not insulting other users, escalating arguments to a personal level, using profanity, or breaking any of our other Rules, they're in the clear (until they make that fatal slip — don't worry, i've got my eye on more than a few people, it's just they've kept their noses clean is all :3). We have to give people enough rope to hang themselves. If you feel a given user has gone too far, by all means please use that Report button and we'll take a look at the situation, but if a day passes and nothing has happened, we've likely concluded that no action is necessary on our part — you're welcome to check up on things via Contact Form at that point if you have any questions regarding our decision process.

Whatever happens, whether we delete the comment(s) in question, edit them, step into the thread ourselves to calm things down, or just leave things be, at that point it falls to you to do the mature thing and ignore these people with whom you disagree as opposed to lashing out at them with insults and/or profanity (thus putting you in violation of our Rules). We do apologize if the idea of having to ignore people and/or opinions you don't like bothers you, but a community made up of people who only think alike would be a very boring place indeed. We prefer to err on the side of the occasional debate (provided our Rules are respected of course :3).

More importantly, the site should do a celebration of some sort when you do use it, like, party music...and confetti on your screen.
