@Zuljaras It isn't because my "feelings are hurt." It's because the man is a vile person. Twitter's current state is enough to showcase that. The amount of hate-speech and information that's not even remotely factual that's pushed in the algorithm now is insane, while posts to the contrary get buried and forgotten. The platform boasts about "freedom of speech," and yet censors the viewpoint that doesn't align with the party who owns it.

The way that this administration that this man is apart of is already running things in the first day, and all the acts which they've passed already goes as a testament that they're fascists. Project 2025 (which policies mirroring it got passed today) is a fascism playbook. The man who is sitting president has threatened to annex various countries, along with threatened with jailing his own political opponents. Human rights were also ripped away along with everything mentioned above.

This is more than likely my final message on the topic as well, but there's a reason why people don't like Elon and tend to consider him a vile person. Very valid reasons that aren't just "Oh ouch, my feelings." The fact that he supports an agenda that wants to get rid of the rights for multiple groups of people is enough of a reason to no longer use Twitter. Let alone the stuff he pulled at the inauguration, which further showed his colors.

Please can the site distance itself from X/twitter asap?

Not trying to stir the pot, but thought it worth sharing this here for added context, and to share the positive news that there are places online we can go to enjoy Nintendo news and discussions without feeling like we've got to put up with X links:

@gcunit at this time I don’t think we will stop using it as a source of news, if there is valid reason to cite it as a primary source. Typically Twitter/X has become less and less common as a source anyway as most people publish elsewhere.

For example, if Nintendo announce something that is only available on Twitter, we will still report on it.

I really hope Nintendo Life, the news site, doesn't remove official Nintendo news from what they write. Kind of the point of the website.

MarioKirbyPikmin?

@gcunit Glad the folks in Reddit could come up with a solution (for once lol). One can always hope Nintendo makes a Bsky account soon. Until then, it is what it is, I guess. 🤷
@pinkminmariokirby Agreed! I don't care where something is from, as long as it is true

@antdickens Thanks for giving a response on the issue.

I'd have hoped you could report the news, and cite the source, without embedding or linking to the source. The less engagements tracked by the platform, the less likely Nintendo are to keep using it. But I won't try and tell you guys how to do journalism.

@gcunit in all honesty, I feel like sites that cite (see what I did there?) without linking tend to also have lower journalism standards, so yeah, Id say keep those links coming! But if they were to completely stop linking to X, they'd then need to screenshot ever post and add that image, which would be a ton of extra work.

Bluesky embeds are so much worse and will sometimes force you to visit the website (unlike twitter). I don't really have social media so I'm not very experienced, I'm just talking from my NL experience. If they went to just using Bluesky, the embeds would work a lot worse in my opinion (especially with Bluesky video embeds). Basically, I don't want my NL experience compromised for some political reason.

Regardless of my thoughts on the fascist in charge, I think Twitter is a significantly worse website in many ways. I don't remember seeing Bluesky video embeds so I'll take your word for those having issues, but images in Twitter embeds often don't show up for me. Something to do with my cookie settings maybe, but I've had no issues with images in Bluesky embeds. Not to mention that if you want to click on a post and see the replies, you often can't do that on Twitter without being logged in, whereas most of Bluesky is viewable without an account.

I don't have a problem with Twitter still being linked to when necessary - which it will be sometimes while Nintendo still uses it - but in my opinion Bluesky is much better for user experience. And I say that as someone who doesn't even have an account on it.

I think that would actually take a minimal amount of extra work.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

There's definitely a good amount of workarounds that aren't that much more labor intensive. Workarounds that would be better than supporting the site run by a literal fascist figure- like many on here have mentioned.

I sorta hope they put more consideration into this, given that companies shouldn't be rewarded for keeping their platforms upon websites run by people who purposefully aim to spread falsities and who aim to make the quality of human lives as worse as possible.

My Idea for the Site:
Please do a guide of games to buy on the Japanese EShop before they apparently region lock it.

FishyS

@AStupidID It sounds like they are doing an anti-fraud thing rather than region locking and their current change isn't even a change for most countries. You should still be able to buy Japanese eShop credit from places like Playasia.

That said... I agree an article on current Japanese exclusives would be interesting. Or it could be an interesting feature in the Better eShop.

Edit: +1 to the comment below this 😅

Can this be the year where we finally get polls?

"Now I have an obligation to tag along and clear the area if Luigi so much as glances at a stiletto."

Greatluigi

Hey can you have it so when someone likes a comment it shows that they did when they comeback to the comment section that they liked the comment in? I had a couple of moments where I see a comment I forgot that I liked and pressed the like button and it removed my like from the comment.

I asked the identical thing on this thread a few months ago. Here was the response from Antdickens:

"Eventually you will be able to see your likes after a page refresh, but not sure when I'll get around to that"

Banjo-

@antdickens

Hi!

Have you considered granting users control over blocks again, making exceptions when the user is abusing the system or designing new rules? For instance, a limited number of blocks per year or per account?

Some users like me are harassed on Pure Xbox by accounts made by fans of the competing system, just because of our personal preferences, which does not make sense to me and does not contribute with anything but repetition and weariness. There is a moderation system, but there are problems with it:

1) The Abusive Behaviour rules, the most important for the users, are not applied consistently.

2) None of my block requests has ever been granted, so I find the request block option useless.

3) Moderation removes the offensive comments after a while, but the offensive users keep doing their thing, because they are not banned even when reported, not even temporarily. There are no consequences for harassing someone, other than comments being removed. Some mock moderation because of that: "I know that this comment will be removed, but..."

4) You said recently that bans should be exceptional, but sometimes, the user taking the bait and reacting to it is punished with a temporary ban, because they are "supposed to control themselves", while the offenders are not punished at all and just have their comments removed eventually. When I asked moderation why the offenders (last time, five accounts supporting the attack instantly) were not banned and the victim was, I received no explanation.

5) The community rules "are designed to foster a welcome, friendly and diverse community", but the current system cannot guarantee that, because of how easy is to harass someone and keep doing it with no consequences. Even if some comments are removed after a while, there is no way for users to protect themselves from hostile users. How can someone feel in a welcome and friendly community when 100% of the tags that they receive from certain users are ill-intentioned? Ignoring them don't prevent them from reading you and tagging you, it just makes more difficult to report them. Wouldn't it be easier and better to let users block the few users that harass them, so they can enjoy the website more? I believe that a very small part of the community is focused on bothering other users, but they are very vocal. I am not talking about blocking someone because you don't like their opinions, I am talking specifically about users that have harassed you before and that only tag you to disagree and to flame you.

I hope that you consider all this and we don't have to rely on moderation exclusively.

Thank you!

@Banjo- we will allow blocks when it makes sense under the rules we've got in place. They are used as a last resort and the vast majority of times an ignore will suffice.

1) We apply our rules as consistently as possible, but every scenario is different and therefore subjective.

2) I'm not going to comment on individual requests in the public forum.

3) We issue warnings, temp bans and permanent bans on a regular basis. Reporting comments is the best way to inform us of bad behaviour.

4) Perhaps email in to ask about specific situations.

5) We've evolved our rules for over a decade now and aims and objectives remain the same, moderation is subjective and we want to encourage conversations but also reduce active harassment. People responding to a user that they disagree with is part of community but there is certainly a line that can be crossed that it then becomes systematic and thus harassment. Again, reporting is the best way to inform mods of what is happening and include as much detail in the report as possible — they are all reviewed and a judgement is made.

The community is the biggest it's ever been, so we do rely on reports more than ever and also rely on people using the report system to flush out bad behaviour rather than 'taking the bait' and reacting.

You're welcome!
