@KidSparta it's usually down to how that language is used, 9 times out of 10 profanity/swearing is used when directed at another member on the site and is therefore unsavoury, so it's more about respecting other users than age per-say. It wouldn't be acceptable to see extreme language used in an advert, even if it was for a horror film, there are standards that the advertising authorities stick to, so that ads are acceptable for ages even below their content rating.

I keep getting redirected to a very suspicious site starting with mmrtb whenever I’m on in this website (and seemingly no others) which is making it almost unusable. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? It wants me to fill out a scammy looking survey for a phone company.

@antdickens Thank you! Email sent! (Well, two emails. I thought it has resolved itself but then it cropped up again!)

suggestion: spoiler-free view.

Articles are generally tagged with things like rumours, leaks, spoilers when needed but lately even some of the titles or frontpage pictures of articles have had leaks in them. It might be nice to have a setting where you can see everything but the articles with rumours, leaks, etc. tags. Maybe as one of the 'Topics' options.

@FishyS I hear where you are coming from, but leaks are pretty inevitable on the web for gaming-related things — speculation is half the reason we exist. We do try to avoid specific spoilers in headlines, but that is usually related to game-specific plots/stories. The best way would be the ability to 'hide' certain tags, I guess, such as 'Leaks' — but we'll still be posting those to social media. Did you have any more specific examples?

@antdickens I agree anyone getting near certain parts of social media can't avoid the leaks, but a lot of people only come to the actual news site so an ability to hide certain tags would help for those who don't want to see leaks. I felt like the actual screen shots of Switch 2 renders on the front page recently was perhaps more spoilery than I've ever seen before on this site...articles often are tagged leaks and even say things like 'don't read further if you don't want leaks' which is nice but doesn't really help if the caption and picture has already leaked everything before you even click on the article.

Every time it really gets into 'leak season' I hear complaints from people who want to avoid leaks. There are sort of workarounds but they have gotten more difficult so an official method would be nice.

As with most in-the-weeds suggestions this would probably be for a very small minority of people, so it isn't super important, mostly just a thought as a potentially useful feature if it was easy to implement.

Been wondering about this recently, and after today it seems appropriate to stop wondering and start asking:

Is Nintendo Life prepared to stop linking to and embedding twitter posts?

I'm not one to overreact to sensationalism and outcry, but with Musk seemingly openly employing Nazi salutes at a State inauguration, I think it would be wise if everybody who has any concerns that he might be a complete nutter stops aquiescing to his behaviour and unshackles themselves from his businesses. You know, just in case he turns out to be a wrong 'un. There's stunts for publicity and shigs and gittles, and he seems to have gone past that today. Like... too far past that for any reasonable person to want to be associated with. That seems borderline insane and deeply irresponsible.

Please can the site distance itself from X/twitter asap?

@gcunit Eh, I'd say embed them, it's up to the user to click or not. Besides, there isn't a Nintendo bluesky account or anything so it's not like they have a choice.
EDIT: I am not a political person--I haven't clicked on a "political" article in years--so your comment concerned me. I looked it up and all I can say is... I disagree. I am a bit of a WWII junkie and even if (very big "if" there) it was supposed to reference a Nazi salute, it was nowhere near close to actually being one. Again, I am not into politics and know next to nothing about Elon himself, but I highly doubt that is the case.

@gcunit I don't think Nintendo Life should go political. I'm actually quite happy with how relatively unpolitical things are here. I'm not an expert at this stuff but I doubt this actually happened. I really don't think this guy would end his career like that. I looked it up because I was curious and the news articles made it really hard to find, but it seemed way more of an exited 'thank you' gesture more than anything with context given (unlike most articles I saw). Those headlines certainly would get some clicks though.

Nintendo's main way of communication is twitter so I doubt Nintendo Life will drop it, nor do I think it should. Bluesky embeds are so much worse and will sometimes force you to visit the website (unlike twitter). I don't really have social media so I'm not very experienced, I'm just talking from my NL experience. If they went to just using Bluesky, the embeds would work a lot worse in my opinion (especially with Bluesky video embeds). Basically, I don't want my NL experience compromised for some political reason.

@gcunit yeah, @PikminMarioKirby pretty much sums up my opinion. Bsky has issues (which is normal for what I assume is a newish site) and from what I can see in the video footage, he is just gesturing. And the articles I found seem very 'clickbaity' and have too many ad hominem-style verbiage to be credible sources, imho. But again, I am not a politics guy so I could be totally wrong. My main issue is still that Nintendo has no Bsky account. -(00)/-

@CaleBoi25 You seriously suggesting any moral or ethical considerations should be put aside because Nintendo still uses X? Maybe, if the people who don't want to see the world slide into a complete clustertruck, desert Musk's platform, Nintendo will soon catch on and do the same? Otherwise where does this stop, where do we draw a line?

@gcunit look, I don't want to get into a big argument, all I said was that Twitter works best, and I am fine with that. I do not want to get all off topic here, but seriously, I don't think saying "ew conservatives" is fair reasoning to abandon a platform. Use what you want to use, don't force everyone else to do it to. That's all I'll say on the matter.
