It may be awhile until I get Golden Sun. It looks incredible but I guess you could argue I'm somewhat of a casual player. I'm currently playing FF4: TAY and after that I may play some other RPG I neglected. I have plenty in my existing library already.

Never played the original Golden Sun, and I doubt i'll pick up this game. Isn't Golden Sun just another generic JRPG? Or is there something unique about it?

The first two Golden Sun games are famed as being two of the best games on the GBA.

that doesn't answer my question. Is there anything unique to the gameplay?

While most of the game wasn't the most innovative RPG to ever come out (it was just fantastically well done), there were a few things that helped set it apart. The ability to use your Psynergy (magic) outside of battle to help solve puzzles and the like was a great idea, and Camelot implemented it very well. While the battle system was mostly a typical turn-based battle system, there was one unique and very cool element: the Djinn system. Basically, you would find these small elemental beings on the world map, and then set them to one of your party members, boosting their stats and possibly changing their class and usuable Psynergies. Once in battle, the Djinn's unique effect (Stronger attack, boosted stats, status effects, and more) could be used, and after that, the Djinn moved to standby. Once on standby, the Djinn could be used to summon a being to deal massive damage to your oponent. The more Djinn used to summon, the more powerful the being. Doing this was always a gamble, however, because a Djinn on standby does not boost your stats like a set Djinn does, possibly leaving you vulnerable in your weakened state.

Oh yeah, and the graphics were incredible. Some of the best spell effects and summons seen in any RPG.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Nintendork

I always thought that this series is right after Pokemon for the greatest RPG of all time, so this is clearly an instant buy. IT'S FINALLY COMING! WOOHOO!!!!

That's why you're still a kid.

It offered up some nice game play twists inside of a traditional JRPG-style experience. I also quite enjoyed the story line. You should try out Golden Sun and see what you think. Might make you want the upcoming DS version.

Plain old gamer :)

It's fun, but suffers from game-Motoi-Sakuraba-composed-for-it syndrome...his music is more predictable than the amount of time a season of 24 takes place over.

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, I guess. I've loved every soundtrack from every Sakuraba-composed game I've played. His final boss themes are always suitably epic. And the man gave us Fighting of the Spirit! That's gotta be a Top 5 video game music track for me.

His music is good, it's just repetetive. The first Baten Kaitos started to lose me with the music...it is good though. I just prefer a Mitsuda or someone more dynamic

Sorry to misunderstand your comment. I can see where you're coming from. When I think about it, his music does seem somewhat repetitive. But when repetitive is awesome, I can deal with repetitive.

Way to revive a really old thread like this, Gabe. Well, I guess whoever was wondering what Feenie's first post on the forums was has to wonder no longer, as it's right here in this thread.

So much has changed, and yet nothing has...

The only thought I had was the words GOLDEN SUN DS being replayed over and over and over again...I can NOT wait any longer for this game. Six years has been long enough, Nintendo! I NEED GOLDEN SUN NOW!

Sorry about that. Please, Nintendo, take as much time as you need to make this game epic. Make us Golden Sun fans proud! And bring in new players to the fold! Everyone needs to play the awesomesauce that is Golden Sun.

Oh, and I hope Sakuraba is composing again. My personal favorite video game music composer.

@Kknight: The first game was about Isaac and his band of cohorts (Garet, Ivan, Mia) trying to prevent Saturos and Menardi from lighting the beacons of the Elemental Lighthouses and bringing about the end of the world. They were also trying to save Jenna (the best character IMO, just look at my picture) and Kraden. The second game followed Felix, Jenna's long lost brother, and his band of cohorts (Jenna, Sheba, Piers) trying to light the remaining Elemental Lighthouses. Contrary to the knowledge Isaac has, lighting the beacons will actually save Weyard. Soon both groups join up to save the world.

Glory may be a little strong of a word. You can tell it's still me, though; it reads like a laundry list of Feenie. Golden Sun fanpersonism? Check. Jenna love? Check. Rambling post? Check. Being a complete and total dork? Check. Passes the litmus test.
