Its a fact that the majority of people who started gaming in New school has an overall weaker performance than that of Old school gamers given how the games evolved more comfortable, controlable and with cooler grabphics to open to new audiences and keep with the eyecandy tendency that the industry suffers currently, and how we old school gamers had to struggle through Metroid with no maps, Super Break Out with tight controls, perfect timing for Donkey Kong and almost every game with limited tries, which once used returned you to the very begining of the game and reset your score.

@7.Alejandro_Talavera: Y'know, you don't make me very nostalgic when you describe it like that.

@malnin: I'm guessing (but cannot recall for certain offhand) that you're older than I (a young man of 20), as I cannot recall a time when it was particularly hard to find another gamer. Then again, I was never the most socially outgoing dude...I only had a few friends, and they WERE gamers, so no problem! Isn't it great how perceptions of a period can be so flawed? Of course, home schooling only made that problem worse (it was like living under a rock in many ways), but I digress...as usual.

@malnin: But...I can't remember a time WITHOUT the 4th gen...
No, seriously, I grew up with the NES and SNES side-by-side. Got my first Gameboy for my sixth birthday in 1995. Good times...

Anyway, yeah, up in Canada, I can totally see that. Same with Twilight Crow down in Mexico. If you folk were here in the US, you'd have been SURROUNDED by gamers at that time!

Woah.I thought Stuffgamer1 was about 11. And if you think kids (Under 14) reactions to old games are bad, You should see their reaction to old movies and TV shows. I remember seeing a 12 year old watching Ghostbusters. His exact words:
"OMG that cgi is crap.I could do better than that."
It's a good thing I don't believe in unneccesary violence.
EDIT:I watched a couple more from that kid. Jesus Christ is that how stupid our current generation is? I mean I thought mainstream musicians acted like retards because they're slowly winding everyone up but...jesus christ. This is why kids should not be given everything they want. I've had three handhelds for myself (Gameboy Colour in 1999,DS in 2006 and a DSi in 2009 (Traded my DS and Wii for one for me and me brother)) and three Consoles (N64, X-Box and Wii) for the family over 11 years. I get given a game outright on christmas and my birthday and in between I have to trade in games to get new ones. Parents on Nintendo Life that is how often kids need to be given games.

This is proof to how one day, i am gonna raise my kids on an NES. Because real men can play Contra, Megaman, and Gradius. Of course i will let them play other things, like Ducktales and Mario Land on the game boy.

But honestly, most kids these days cant play Oldschool to save their lives. And graphics are always a point of concern. We never spoke about graphics when i was a kid! Man up children!

I suppose a big difference between current generations and early gen players is the amount of disposable income that parents / gamers can spend on games. You basically had one or two games in your own collection and you had to make do. Whereas now gamers usually pick one or two games at a time.
I remember becoming a master of Donkey Kong Game & Watch but then again I didnt have much option as original Game&Watch systems only had one game with various difficulty settings. Kids are much more spoiled these days in that if something gets too difficult or they get boring you just play another game. Also for us thirty somethings graphics and interactivity only improved so back then it was amazing being able to play a simple black and white LCD game whereas now its "what kind of BS is this?"

I loved ghostbusters when I was 11... I still do! Such a good movie.... Back on topic: I'm 14 and I did and still do love the NES and Game and Watches (the ones I've actually played anyways).

He didn't even bother to read the instructions. This is an OLD game, kid! It doesn't HAVE in-game tutorials!
Don't you just love the way he completely ignored the top screen while playing Greenhouse? Then he blames the GAME when he dies? Riiiiight...
Also, he really shouldn't have been holding the camera with one hand. Just makes the games needlessly more difficult.

He also said in the beginning that the game had bad graphics. They were released in 1982! What was he expecting, HD?

I guess he still believes in the Tooth Fairy....
He's a rookie, and sooner or later, he'll realize that the review was garbage because he didn't know anything about it back then.
I mean come on, bad graphics?
I mean, what DID he expect? High-definition Game & Watch?! XD

Amen.
I'm a teenager nearing young adulthood and I love my retro games that came before I did. Contra, SMB, Pac-Man, Pole Position (my fav old-timey game), hell even Donkey Kong!
The thing is, the gamers of tomorrow need to embrace the past and present and also, they need to realize how far video games came since the days of Atari 2600 and Intellivision. From bits to pixels to polygons to stunning HD!

[quote=ballistikboy]We must be around the same age! Funny how this site is full of a bunch of teenagers and also bunches of 30 somethings.

Yeah 27 here. I wonder how that kid would have played holding the camera at a tv and using an old Atari Joystick

And you haven't had a proper childhood unless you've spent at least 5 hours of your life playing kirbys adventure or Kirbys Dreamland

@FATEM: Poor grammar? That's not something I get accused of very often, to be honest. I do know a number of people who think I'm a very good writer, though.

Kirby's Dreamland: Check. Huzzah, I had a "proper" childhood!

Guys, this is one of the moments in life you dont see coming until its already here, when say things like "today's kids", "back in my days", "when I was a child" and start feeling old (much in the Cranky Kong fashion) being only 22.

If you do the math I actually were very young to play NES games on day one. but that's the point, back on 1990s nobody talked about graphics and you enjoyed an 1983 NES game as much as the brand new SNES game. You didnt care that your portable games were monochrome, whatsmore, we were glad that portable gaming could even exist

(Also played Kirby dreamland, and if I planned to have childs I´d also rise them on the NES and original gameboy, but actually I cant stand childs and wouldnt have even one ever)

Same here plus added for added brilliance I spent at least 15 hours playing Kirby's Pinball Land. I never finished the final boss battle though.
