I've seen footage of it and know that you can type in words and make the objects appear but what other stuff can you do? I'm asking because sometime this year I'm getting a ds and I wanna have a good idea of what titles I want to get
It's okay. There are loads of things you can write, but a lot of them are copies of one another. The gameplay isn't so solid because it's all touchscreen based, so it can be frustrating during platforming or fighting sections.
A sequel with improvements will be coming out, so I'd recommend you wait for that one. Why don't you post in the recommendations thread asking for good DS titles?
I really wanted Scribblenauts, even before I got my DSi, I couldn't wait for it to come out. Then when I got it I barely played it. The controls were just so fiddly that it was frustrating. And I found myself always trying to think of a word I never used before, as if I wasn't playing to it's full potential if I re-used a word. I gave up playing not long after I got it and have since sold it.
Scribblenauts is awesome. But like everyone else has said the controls are pretty fiddly. I'd get it if Scribblenauts if the sequel hasn't already been released when you get a DS.

Ditto. I'm going to trade in my copy for tomorrow's purchase Monster Hunter Tri.
Speaking of Scribblenauts, my experience was struggling with the levels and ending up just using the jetpack (which was fidgety at best anyway), or just plain brute force. The creators even acknowledge this in their preview of the new Scribblenauts in a magazine I read, so I may re buy into the Scribblenauts games at a later date.
despite it's wonky controls, scribblenauts is an amazing game. the fat that people above only used the jet pack or brute force is a testament to their lack of imagination, not the the lack of quality of the game. Scribblenauts is an amazing idea and i admit the execution could have been better, but if you are a gamer with an imagination you will find hours and hours of challenge and fun.
The Good: #1. Great concept that does succeed (in most areas). #2. There is a pretty big amount of levels.
The Bad: #1. The point-&-click controls feel completely out of place since the game is more action focused. #2. A huge amount of items to write can cause a serious brain fart that may last the entire game (AKA you may be sticking to just writing rope and helicopter/jetpack in most levels because you can't think of anything else).
The Final Verdict: Your entertainment depends on if you like setting up crazy scenarios and redoing challenges in different ways. If you're looking for a game that is focused and will provide a solid experience (whether it be long or short), you shouldn't pick it up.

Yeah, it's really not very good. I plan on selling mine soon. It's fun for a bit, but it just has so many flaws it gets to the point of being unplayable. I actually nulled it on the Backloggery because I feel like the game really is broken.
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.
No not really. Its fun and entertaining for a while but then it just gets old. Personally it wasnt very good. Some levels are to easy and others make no sence. It needs a lot more items. Too many limits. WAIT FOR THE SEQUAL.

I have never had so many absurd scenarios in a single game. I loved it and highly recommend it. As the other people said, controls are still often a pain.

I agree with everyone else on waiting for the sequel and that some of the puzzles (in the original game) are extremely hard to figure out and they give no hint as to what you have to do. But I think I should remind people that Scribblenauts' controls are not broken, but they are used in a point-and-tap manner. They aren't meant to be used as a stylus-controlled D-pad.

It is an interesting game in theory, until you have to deal with the clunky controls. I played thru the tutorial and at one point where you have to fly the plane, i managed to flip it upside down and it took 5 minutes to get it the right way around. I finished the tutorial and never played it again.
