Oh lord, you brought an RPGgamer review in here? Seriously they're awful. Their reviewers are all jaded elitist that forgot how to enjoy a game instead of compairing it to whatever RPG ideals the covet. "It needs to be more old school HARDCORE!" or even worse "This game didn't reinvent the genre, I expected some new fangled gimmicks, blah, blah..."
[shakes head back] bias or not, it's a much more accurate review. Plus...come on....it's Nintendolife. I don't exactly hold these reviews in the highest regard either...way too many 9's and 10's for games that are sub-par, as demonstrated.
Honestly, given the two reviews, I feel RPGamer's elitist-ness is deserved...they touched on more accurate points, at least in this case. I felt almost identically.

It seems to me all your comments were ripped straight out of that review more than you "felt identical". You even played this game? I doubt that reviewer did for more than three hours.
Sweet_Murd did you even really read my review? And I've been playing RPGs for over 27 years. I've played just about every RPG out there so I think I'm more than qualified to review it. I think people get far too caught up in RPGs "doing something new" than they do appreciating a solid-playing RPG. I always appreciate all reviews, even when I disagree with their opinion, but I've found the guys on RPGamer to be far too critical and it sometimes makes me wonder just how big of an RPG fan they really are sometimes.
@Corb - yeah i did...I just felt like you completely left out a ton of bad points I notice. You praise the quest system---they're even more mindless than the fetch quests in MMBN games. You somehow called the game colorful--the use of color is appalling the entire game through. A bunch of one-shaded blurry disgustingness, polygon count be damned. I'm not saying anything about your qualifications--I'm well aware of them. I'm saying I disagree with yours and feels theirs is more accurate--and I stand by that. Yeah I agree they're persnickety and entirely too judgmental, but they hit the nail on the head with this game.
EDIT - @JayArr - it's hard not to use what I'm defending as material to draw from...especially since I've said I feel similarly. And yes, Glenn finished the game.
I stated in the review that there were times when the game looked like it stepped off of a Playstation console. But I understand your opinion and I stand by mine as well.
Nope sorry, I'm going to have to stick to my guns on this one. But in truth, this is one of the few discussions people will have with me about my reviews so I always take advantage of it.
But ultimately, I'm one of those people that would much rather play the same old same old good RPG than a very unique below average one. While I'm always up for new features and originality, I certainly don't mind tried-and-true when it comes to RPGs.
See I'm totally burnt out on the classic formula...if I want that, I'll play a classic. New games never seem to be able to shake that "look! I've been done before--but better!" feeling...prob why Baten Kaitos shocked/inspired awe the way it did. ESPECIALLY ORIGINS (game just worked for me on every level)

(Just a random chime in) That's exactly how I am. Most of the games I make are not unique at all, but I try to make the gameplay fun and solid. I don't give a flip if a game is innovative as long as it's fun. :3
Well I like it when a developer takes some real chances, as long as the end product holds up. Baiten Kaitos is a good example of that. So was Panzer Dragoon Saga. But when it comes to RPGs, I just want a game that plays well and keeps my interest. And Nostalgia more than did that. I could have picked it apart, but I chose to stick with the points of the game that stuck out to me and the ones I had seen people asking about in the weeks leading up to the review. It has flaws, but I felt like the overall experience was fun and featured enough unique elements to at least make it somewhat stand out from the crowd. I guess that's what sold me on it in the end.
James has interviewed me for the podcast this week and I'm talking about Nostalgia. You'll hear a bit more of my take on it then.
@Corbie.... I did take into account that you were a diehard old shcool RPG veteran in the review you gave on Nostalgia. The game by all means is your niche in gaming, so it didn't suprsise me a bit when I saw that Nintendo Power gave the game a 7/10 wich is Very close to you 8/10. Granted a 7/10 from NP is going to be a bit lower on other sites usually but for some this classic RPG gameplay is very missed. I land in the Hardcore 2D Sidescroller and 3rd person action genre so I know this isn't for me but for those who like the genre.
@Swerd..... Im like you though I started with Final Fantsy 7 then got into the Tales series and have went back to Earthbound wich isn't classic RPG at all. Honesty I hate old school RPGs they just frustrate the crap out of me I do see how they could be terribly addictive to some but its not my cup of tea so to speak either.

As I said, one of the questions James asked me was about the variation in review scores between the various media sites and I explain why it didn't surprise me as you'll hear. As I tell people, it's always important to read as many reviews as you can to get a good idea of how a game is received on a large scale. I would never want anyone to only ready my review or someone else's and then make a decision from that one review alone.
You've been reading my posts in Final Fantasy and Pokemon threads haven't you? I must admit I cannot keep stuff like that a secret. Just read in threads about what I think about Zelda and you'll see what I mean.
