Less, than 1 hour ago, I picked up my reserved copy of my most anticipated game, Nostalgia! I thought the release date was 10/27, but I don't care, 'cause I got Nostalgia! Very good impressions so far.
It came out the 23rd here, but I didn't think the date was correct. Even if I knew it was correct, I couldn't pick it up 'cause of my b-day party. Gameinformer gave it a plain 8, which I think is a little low.
Yeah, there were a few GameStops that got it yesterday but unfortunately for me none of them are anywhere near my home. I don't know if this game has limited distribution or if the other stores just haven't received their shipment yet. I really hope that I can find a copy of Nostalgia next week.
It's really fun, a pretty addicting rpg. I've battled a couple of bosses on land and one in the air. The graphics are about the same as ff4 ds, and the music is good. It deserves a shot at handheld game of the year.
Well corbie? As you can see, I've changed my avatar back to PixelEddie. What's funny is when the gamestop person called, she said "Nostaligia" would be expected on saturday.
Anyways, I'm glad you're enjoying it. It looks good, but I doubt I'd get it. If I subscribe to GameFly, I might rent it, but it certainly wouldn't be high on my list.
Still much love for Corbert, but yeah--review was entirely too sunshine and rainbows--the game's pretty busted.
Overall, the game is been-there-done-that. That's pretty easy to tell, even from Corbie's review. I haven't played it, so I'm not gonna bash it, but it's pretty obvious that how much you enjoy it depends on how much nostalgia you have for older SNES RPG gameplay and classic RPG conventions. In fact, this game sounds quite a bit like Golden Sun - a game which I resented, but a lot of other people, including Corbie, loved. Just going off the reviews, it doesn't seem like a sub-par game, it just doesn't offer anything new, and will probably fade into obscurity amounts the flood of other DS RPGs, most of which are far more original than this game.
The real issue is that none of the nostalgia is good. The only real feeling I got was a positive affirmation that old RPG conventions were done away with for good reason. Also, the presentation is busted. Corbie seemed to leave out the awfully bland graphics the entire game and the ear-splitting attempt at epic music. As someone who's first RPG was Dragon Warrior 1, it did not bring back any of the good nostalgic feelings that I expected it would. Balance is awful too.
