This might be a question already asked/answered, but will games currently out on the DSiWare be purchasable, playable on the 3ds? I only have a DS lite and am interested in some of the current games like Cave Story for when I get my 3ds
Princess Peach's sweet voice will soon be the bread that makes the sandwich of Cackletta's desires! And this battle shall be the delicious mustard on that bread! The mustard of your doom!"
Yes, they are downloadable and trasferable. I don't think every single game on DSiWare maintains compatibility as Nintendo has only ever used the word MOST but I imagine a good chunk, at least 90 percent, will make it over.
I need to know fast because at my gamestop, if you trade in a DSi, the price drops from 249 dollars, to 159.

@Gemini - From what I've gathered, when the update launches in May all DSiWare games should be available to purchase. But, you never know with Nintendo. They could come sooner if Nintendo has their new points cards in stores earlier.
i dont see why nintendo doesnt allow you to trasnfer games between systems..
give them your old number (nintendo removes access to those games) give them your new number (nintendo transfers the games)
wouldnt be that hard... nintendo just wants you to rebuy the games ... your allowed to transfer your games to a new ps3 or xbox360 with no problems
It could actually be easier than that, Slide. If you've ever transferred your WiFi Connection settings from one DS to another, you'll get an idea of what they could do. The shop app could launch a single card download sort of app that you load up on the 2nd DSi or 3DS, the two units then "negotiate" what apps you have the right to and activate them on the 2nd DS whilst removing access to them on the first. You can then download them again from the shop on the 2nd DS. I suspect this is what they will do for transferring DSiWare purchases to the 3DS.

what i dont like is if you get a system from say best buy. you can buy a 2 year warrenty for like 20 bucks... in that two years the system breaks you get a new system.. but if it breaks in the 2nd year to keep your games you need to send it in to nintendo for a 90 buck repair charge.... so i wouldnt even have the first DSI since it broke and wouldnt have the power to swap it into the 2nd system
Yeah, I understand reluctance to buy downloadable software when there is a risk you could lose it. Nintendo really need to create some sort of account system similar to Steam where you can simply log in to your account and play any software that you have legally bought on any compatible system.
I guess they are worried that people will share accounts to save money, but people share game cards to save money already and Nintendo seem to be doing alright.
