This is the DS vs. PSP topic. It doesn't have to be DS it can be the normal one or the DSi, or on the PSP side it can be the original or the PSP Go. I personally like DS's better but I've never played on a PSP much. What are your guys' feelings?

Currently Playing: Pikmin 3 and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Recently Beat: Wind Waker HD, Mario 3D World, and A Link between Worlds

DS is better by a long shot. I only play one or two PSP games anymore.

It's OK to have an opinion. This ain't the Soviet Union you know.

well, i really dont like the PSP for 3 reasons:
1. they try to cram a ton of buttons on it and that just confuses me
2. there arent many fun games on it, most are pretty bland
3. cant they come up with any other name besides Playstation? or even come up with a new controller design?

DS wins by default

Ds has better rpgs, platformers, better shooter control(fps) and the inovative touch screen! DS is better!

Don't they just put PS2 games on the PSP or something?

The DS has a touch screen and the ability to shut the lid to protect the screen. That right there makes it the clear winner by default for me. I love clamshell things, first of all; and I am loving the touch screen even if most of its uses were for menus (even those are MUCH faster and easier with a touch screen.) I wish the other screen was a touch screen, as well....; but I know that some people want a screen without fingerprints. So it's a personal thing, I guess.

But this is besides the fact that the DS has better games and a longer battery life (I rarely had to charge up my DS Lite. The DSi requires more frequent charging; but even then, it still lasts a long time. Plus, Nintendo seems to make the best batteries ever that don't somehow lose their charge even if you don't switch the thing on. I wish I could say the same about my laptop that will go dead if it's not plugged in after a couple of weeks.....). There are some things that I like about the PSP over the DS; but most of them are social factors, such as Skype and fewer controls on interacting with each other.)

While I have good things to say about them both, the DS is the clear winner for me. Despite the amazing technology the PSP offers, I personally prefer DS games like Phantom Hourglass and The World Ends With You over what PSP offers (as much as I like the Heat the Souls and Crisis Core).

Oh, and JuneBelle makes an excellent point: the clamshell. My PSP has gotten some gunk into it, which the DS manages to avoid.

...the PSP and DS have the exact same amount of buttons, in almost the exact same configuration. I can't see how you could possibly get confused by one, but not the other.

No, in fact, it's quite the opposite - they tend to port quite a few PSP games to the PS2(and more often than not, the port is of much lesser quality, although that's mostly because they're sloppy ports).

Anywho, back on topic:

I'd say they're both top-notch systems, although I will say that I spend much more time with the PSP than I do with my DS. While I think the DS is a bit better constructed, they're both pretty solid devices, and I've only ever had minor gripes with either contraptions(DS is too heavy, PSP has low battery life).

Both of them have terrific libraries of games, including some of the best games this generation(console or handheld). I'll admit, the PSP has more games that pertain to my tastes(Fighters, shmups, 2D/3D action platformers, racing games), including some of my favorites in their respective genres(N+, Daxter, Crisis Core, Lumines, Wipout Pure/Pulse). But most importantly the PSP has some top-notch ports and collections that generally become the definitive versions of their respective games(Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles, Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X, Gradius Collection, Darkstalkers Chronicles: The Dark Chaos Tower, the list just keeps on going on!). Really, I don't think there's a single PSP game that has ever disappointed me. Not to say I'm unhappy with my DS - quite the contrary, I love almost all of my DS games, it's just that I don't love them quite as much as my PSP games.

Still, like I said, both of them are fantastic platforms, and not owning both of them is pretty much a crime in my eyes.

This is what I think about this in a nutshell.
DS: brand new, innovative device with amazing touch screen function, and a dual screen feature
PSP: recycled junk in a new package (love starcraft though

Hard to say. PSP has better sports game, and hardware along with a FAR superior online system.

DS has better games overall for pretty much every genre.

I think in terms of hardware, the PSP and PSP Go just blow the DS out of the water, but the DS has better games.
The large majority of people say software is the most important thing, but some people are tech nerds.

Although the PSP is a great piece of hardware, the problem I had was the lack of games. I loved playing games on the PSP, but couldn't find enough of them to keep me interested. Although the library has grown a little since I sold it, the PSP still has a weaker library overall. There are good games to be had, so the system may be worth owning as a second handheld. The DS has a very diverse and innovative library, though some types of gamers still may not find much to satisfy them. Anyone who enjoys RPGs, however, should definitely go with the DS since it is the primary home of RPGs this generation (in much the same way the PS2 was last generation).

A good way to decide is to go through the list of games on metacritic in score order. Don't look at the scores so much, but check to see how many games you can find that interest you on each system. Doing something similar fueled my decision to sell my PSP; I realized there was nothing else I really wanted to play, while there were plenty of titles I was still interested in for my DS.

I have both, and personally I prefer the DS. It's much more fun, and has more fun titles in the DS library than the PSP one.

DS hands down, no holds barred...

I like the PSP more than the DS or DSi but the PSP Go! makes them look fat...
