Purely from a standpoint of brightness and picture quality, would I be better off playing GB Advance games on a GB Advance SP or on a DS Lite? I have an old GB Advance SP, but I can purchase a new DS Lite for $60. I already have a DSi XL, so the Lite would just be for GB Advance games. Thoughts?
If it were the backlit GBA SP it would probably be the same, but you probably have the original which doesn't look as good as the DSL screen. The colours definitely stand out more on the DSL.

All GBA SP had the backlight. The original GBA didnt have the backlight.

I actually really like playing on the GB SP over DS Lite for Game Boy games.

No actually, my brother got an early GBA SP it had no back light instead it had small lights projecting on the front after about a year or so they changed it.

It wasn't until the Gameboy Micro came out that they switched from using frontlit to backlit screens in the GBA SP, so most of the ones you find are actually frontlit. Come to think of it, the Gameboy Micro would be another option if you're looking for something to just play GBA games on.
A guy I work with got a few at a store that was going out of business. He doesn't want to crack the boxes, so I can't test it to see how it compares to my GB Advance SP. So the consensus seems to be the DS Lite is better.

Yes. I love the Micro, so happy i picked one up a couple years back (for $20!). And it's suprisingly comfortable to use, even though i have big hands (hey now!)

Oh - it's a personal deal - LOL. I was hoping that you knew about a great sale, since I'm looking for a good deal on a DS Lite.

What? Either this is sarcastic, or a different version came out in EU or something. I got an SP about a month, possibly less, after it came out. It definitely has a back light.

@Ravage The SP most definitely did NOT have a backlight until very late in its lifespan in the US. Perhaps was different for the EU, but i didn't think so. They didn't release a backlit SP until around the time that the Micro came out, or maybe around the same time that the DS was released.
The original GBA SP has a lighted screen, and your average person would probably assume that it's backlit rather than frontlit, so that's probably why there is confusion. I assumed it was backlit too till the actual backlit model came out.
