Wonderful idea, great graphics and implementation and controls... just not worth $16 for both... don't you guys agree?

I don't understand why mario and DK can have so many levels for 800 points and I can't have 8 lessons for 800 points I still love these lessons ....I'm glad that there's no 3rd semester so they can't rip me off again (I know if they have a 3rd semester i will still get it)
Sorry I have to backtrack on what I said -- after reading the review, I've decided to go with 1st sem only. I will try to explore myself the remaining tools not taught in 1st, but without any instructions on how to use the basic tools (stated in the review) I can't progress. If, however, any of you decided to buy 2nd ONLY and are interested in sharing, I'd be happy to write a synopsis about the tools taught in 1st.
Although 16 dollars are nothing compared to real life lessons, we are still playing make-believe instead of painting real art on an easel.

Well said, Princess Peach! MvDK was a wonderful deal at 8 bucks!!! Art Academy (both semesters) at $16 is a rip-off. What happened? Why couldn't they just combine both for 8 bucks?

Edit: I have now downloaded second semester and I am loving the new lessons, while I still don't like having had to shell out $16 for both of these games over the past month, I am loving the tools and the lessons, I think they are wonderful, but just not worth the price. So unless you are a drawing/painting/art lover like me, then stay away from this one. This one is only for serious folk like me who love painting and I guess the truly great thing about this is that you have unlimited number of "canvases" to paint on, etc, and you can export your paintings and drawings to facebook in their picture frames, etc. I still give this one a low score but I will up my score to 5/10 just based on the high cost of both games seperately and the fact that Nintendo's own press release "misled" us into believing you were getting newer tools with this version, which you aren't. I upped my score, though, because I do truly love this series... great tools and lessons, we just needed a bit more!

Blah, the puppy turned out terrible. It looks like a cartoon! I used the grid but I still somehow made its head too big. I tried to fix it but I couldn't get it right. Eventually I get frustrated and gave up. I'll probably do this lesson again sometime.
You guys are so fed up with no new tools... I just dont get it. Art Academy has two semesters and each promises different lessons. I am going to buy both semesters because of the lessons, and it doesn't bother me a bit that there are no new tools. Of course, I understand I am an artist and are very interested in both semesters, and some of you may not be. But as far as I understand, if you plan on buying one of them, buy the 1st semester, because apparently the 2nd is much harder, and assumes you know the tools. If you've already played the 1st, then I suggest playing the 2nd if you liked it. Just my opinion, don't take it to heart! lol
by the way those pics are amazing! i am totally astonished by the quality of pictures you guys have painting! another reason i am so excited to get this app
It isn't the no new tools thing that bothers people, it's that you are paying an additional 800 points for four more lessons. The Free paint mode is excellent but we already paid for it in semester 1.
So it's 800 points for 6 lessons and free paint mode in semester 1. And then 800 points for 4 lessons and the identical free paint mode in semester 2.
I bought the Second Semester because I had some extra money but I can understand why people are not pleased.
You might not get a "refund" refund, but, if Nintendo ever decides to re-issue the series as download content, based on how Nintendo issued a NES game for those who bought the Internet Channel before the channel was free, you may end up getting credit for buying DSi Ware.
