Hey guys!
I've collected several amiibos so far and I've been good enough to not open all but two (Mario and Link). I think they just look so pretty in their boxes! At the same time though I feel like they aren't really getting fully appreciated with them being restricted to staying in the box..
So my question is, What's your take on amiibo collecting? Do you leave them in the box to retain value or open them up and use them to their full potential?
Well any amiibo I get would be open so I would use it, however if you must keep your amiibos boxed then you could get more or wait for the cards to come out, would be waiting long time for any common amiibo to be worth a nice price.
I leave them sealed until I have a use for them outside of smash bros, so I've opened yoshi and captain falcon, and I have Marth, Ike, and Megaman sealed.
I don't care for collecting amiibos so I wouldn't leave them sealed unless I knew I bought it just to resell later. I'd take mine out and display them.
If I had the space and money (and a place of my own), I'd like to have two of each. One to keep on display in their beautiful boxes, and a second one to actually play with. Collecting one of each is materialistic enough though. Having two of each would be grossly excessive and I would not want to indulge such an impulse.
While I wouldn't be classified as a collector by any stretch, I have been and shall continue to collect the amiibo as they are nice to have, particularly as I'll be buying most first party 3DS/U games for the foreseeable future, so it'd be useful to have them on hand in case any of the figurines offer something cool in any upcoming releases.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
It's all personal preference. Some keep all of them in box for display, some are collecting for the sole purpose of having them all new-in-box, some open select ones they like and keep others sealed, and some open all of them for regular use. I open, use, and display all of mine, but I still keep the boxes since I think they look good. The boxes do take up room, though, and if you keep them in there you need a plan for storage. Some people even hang all of them on the wall, which is a pretty nice way of doing it.
Mine are all in their boxes. Besides being more decorative they are way easier to dust off. And since their usage is meh at best and the cards are coming, then I won't need to open any of them. I am not a kid to play with toys. I am an adult so I collect them instead
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Did you just call me a kid?
No, he's calling everyone an adult because kids also have collections, just like adults.

You make it sound as if that was a bad thing. Kids are human too, you know?

Initially I thought it would be a good idea to leave them in the boxes, but I realized the reason I bought then was to have them and not resell them. I want to have them for a long time and I felt it would be a waste not to open and display them.

Pretty much all of this! Although I don't want to have mulitples just to display them. Unpopular opinion: The boxes don't look that good. I mean, individually they look fantastic, but who wants 30 boxes of figurines all lined up? I've seen some people display them like this and it looks bloody awful, honestly. Just a mess of cardboard and reflective plastic. Takes up too much space.
Pretty much both. The only ones I have that are still sealed are the ones I don't have time/want to train in Smash and don't unlock anything extra in other games for the time being. Out of the 19 I own currently, only 8 of them are actually out of the case that I use. When Project S.T.E.A.M comes out, that number will jump to 10 (Ike and Marth) opened. Granted I will first need the New 3ds for that to happen.

I open mine to put on display in my case (see profile pic). Otherwise the boxes take up too much space. In an ideal world i would have bought 2 of each. I'm a completist so i will be gutted if i can't get all the smash ones. Have 28 so far...

THANK YOU.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
I just opened Mega, Meta, and Sonic. I bought 2 originally of each with plans on keeping one opened one sealed but I don't know if I want do that. What's the point of keeping them sealed you know? I really wonder what the value of these will be long after the Wii U is gone.
To blessed to be stressed.
