Topic: i think Amiibo is going to fail in the U.K

I just went into GAME couldn't see Amiibos in the store they were behind the counter barely in site. I went into Smyth's and they had one small shelf at the very bottom of the row.
Makes me think these will become quite collectable in time.
Has anyone else noticed or not noticed them in game shops in the U.K

They're only just starting, and not only is their stock seemingly very limited, we also only have 12 of them for now. Just give it some time until the second or third wave arrive.

Always a bad idea to judge how well something is selling based on what one retailer is doing.

For example when I walked into the shops today to grab a couple I had an entirely different impression. Today was the launch day here in Aus, this shop opened at 9AM and I walked in at around 10:30-ish. They had a decent sized stand that had a fair chunk of amiibos left but it was fairly clear that a lot had sold already. There was a queue at the counter with about four people infront of me and of them three had amiibos, three to five each. One guy was just there for a Dragon Age strategy guide. And this isn't exactly a "city shop" either. It's probably the "nearest specialist game store" for a population of maybe 15k people.

I also saw some pics some people took early this morning of shops which had shelf space for 30 with only 4 left about an hour after the shops opened. Not because they didn't get any in either. I could ignore all that and instead point out that it wasn't really that hard to get a hold of one even if you wanted to get all of them. Or I could just ignore the fact that there was an actual queue at my local game shop that was mostly for Amiibos. But I won't, not because I'm trying to paint a false picture about how they're flying off the shelf...... but more because it looks like they're not a failure....

Hasn't almost everything Nintendo failed in Europe lately?

Found none at all in a large ASDA.
Incidentally, their Nintendo section was about half the size of the Disney Infinity or Skylanders sections, and far smaller than Xbox or PS. The only two Wii U games they sold were Just Dance and Smash. The state of Nintendo in the UK is deplorable.
On the plus side, I did get the new Adventure Time game for £17. It's basically an AT skin for A Link to the Past. Not a bad thing.

I went to my local GAME and the only amiibo(s) they sold were pre-orders. In fact, they had so little that they had to take some from another GAME a few miles away! Luckily, I pre-ordered my Mario so I have one amiibo :3

The Nintendo UK Store doesn't seem to care though. I pre-ordered Link for launch day delivery and so far it hasn't arrived

I will update this when Half Life 3 arrives. [Started 17/11/2015]

I went into two Game stores yesterday and both had sold out, as had most of my local Argos stores. I managed to pick up a Yoshi in an Argos store some distance away but I had to reserve it as stocks were low. I think that early signs are good. They are likely to be picked up by Nintendo fans and figure collectors alike, used for stocking fillers and purchased with games and systems. Don't forget that these are brand new and only 1 system and 3 games support them currently. Wait until the new 3DS hits Europe along with future Amiibo releases and supporting games. Then they will probably really take off.

Are you sure they'd sold out? Or just no stock delivered?

I think this will do fine in the UK. They just need to MARKET it and kids and adult gamers alike will buy at least a few of the most popular ones.

I do sometimes wonder why Nintendo bothers with retailers when they get almost no (or sometimes none!) shelf space dedicated to their products. I've also noticed the same with the PS Vita as well.

Had a similar issue. Went into GAME and no Amiibo on show, yet they have a section dedicated to Skylanders larger than the Wii U and 3DS shelves combined. then checked HMV and although they have a big sign advertising Amiibo, they didn't actully have anything to show for it. Shame. But that's just the UK market I guess. All about the Xbone.... silly rabbits.....

Yeah retail shops in Glasgow are piss-poor for Wii U certainly. HMV has some games and that's it: no accessories at all.

GAME sells systems and games, maybe a couple of headsets, but that's it, though stock seems to vary by store. Argos isn't much better. Really retail shops might as well not exist here as far as Nintendo goes.

I bought all 12 from Smyths in Thurrock. T'R'U had a range of 6, TESCO a range of 8.

I wouldn't go anywhere near Game so I wouldn't know what they've got.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Moldemort

I couldn't find any at two large TESCO stores, I was told they didn't stock any Nintendo products at all anymore. I ended up going to GAME, I got the only Link amiibo.

My local Gamestop here in the U.S. isn't selling Amiibo's either and even worse most of the employees don't even know what an Amiibo is. -_-

Game in Bradford had them behind the counter but on prominent display as part of the pre-order. They had no Kirbys so I asked them to order one for me, with just 2 days notice to launch. They had it for me on launch day and I noticed the stock behind the counter had definitely dwindled in those 2 days. I reckon Amiibo will do just fine here....although the cynic in me suspects that plenty of people are hoarding them for later ebay sales

Definitely out of stock. I spoke to the staff there. Sold out quickly apparently.

Agreed. I've noticed that Game has a very poor range of games for the Wii U but they do have a reasonable amount of shelf space devoted to the 3/2DS, games and accessories. The same can be said of Asda, Tesco, HMV etc. It's all XBone and PS4. The UK market appears to be very narrow sighted as far as console and game selection goes.

For home consoles, It's pretty much a two horse race in the UK.

That worries me... is it Tesco refusing to sell Nintendo or Nintendo refusing to supply them? I cant imagine that the handhelds did that badly in there. I bought Pokemon Y from Tesco back when it was released.
