2. I just hope they are cheap, I can't imagine they'd be half the price to manufacture as the figurines themselves.
NFC chips are dirt cheap. You can buy several blank NFC cards for just a dollar. Print some artwork on the thing, and you're done. I think the majority of the costs are going to be the shipping costs and profit the retailer makes.

Maybe the shelves will be overflowing with amiibo then!
...Sorry that joke was In poor taste
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
Speaking of packs, I really hope they don't do the thing where you don't know what characters you're buying. Amiibo is definitely not something I want randomized...
I'm sure Nintendo wouldn't randomize amiibo. But I agree. I don't want to buy a whole pack looking for a Marth, only to find a crapton of Marios/Links/Pikachus.
Though I do think they'll create an amiibo equivalent to shiny Pokémon cards, maybe even include shiny designs for the 6 Pokémon characters in Smash if any of them are selectable alt skins ingame (I wouldn't know as my shiny record is pretty nonexistent outside of event ones though I did catch a random shiny Machop rather early on in Alpha Sapphire )
It would've been great if the cards had been included in the original releases and if the option to get cards instead was there from the beginning. They should be so much more convenient to take with you and take up a lot less space in your home.

Good, there should be no trouble with supply then. I feel that packs of three with specific cards in them for $6AU is reasonable

Nice! I like the machop line. All I've managed to get a shiny Rattata in HG and A poochyena in AS. As a one off scan, I wouldn't object to the pokemon amiibos unlocking a shiny 'mon. Subsequent scans could unlock items maybe (generally common items, but occasionally a rare item e.g. Master Ball.)
@dizzy_boy: I hope the design's more original and interesting than that.
I suppose they could add some background detail, plus theres the flip side to think about. Other than that, it wouldn't suprise me if that's how Nintendo would design the cards.
Besides, I'm just guessing based on that twitter pic.
While I prefer the figures I'm definitely going to be picking up the cards of those that I can't get ahold of like Lucario and Meta Knight, etc. I'll probably get all of the Mario Party characters as cards also. What I would love to see Nintendo start to do is when they have a game release that has a line of toys give the option to ether just get the game or for another $10 or $15 buy a game that includes all of the character cards that come with it, like the new Kirby Game, Mario Party, Codename Steam (with Fire Emblem cards), New Fire Emblem, Zelda Wii U, etc. That would be awesome for both the consumer and would be a way for Nintendo to hook fans into the card line, besides doing packs..

This idea with replacing amiibo figurines with cards, is this official and confirmed? Or something nintendo said in a interview with fans?
amiibo cards have been confirmed, but it's not necessarily replacing amiibo figures.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

it's official they will be making cards but i don't think it will be a replacement. i assume this is the only way to do an amiibo pokemon game. thats my guess anyway.

Oh good, but will they continue producing amiibos that are sold out today? Like Little Mac, Shulk and so on?
