Two Tribes has priced their games that way a few times. I think I do remember reading it was being released at a lower, introductory price, but I agree that it is weird they didn't point that out on the eShop itself.

Over at Gamefaqs the theory is because of financial woes after the Toki Tori 2 disaster. Was it a disaster? And because of financial woes doubled the price.

What they were too lazy to have a little sticker like other discounted games on Nintendo eshop stating the end date for the $1.99? Thats lazy and very sneaky. No wonder they have financial woes, hope they go out of business. They certainly lost mine.
Well, that's harsh. It's sneaky because they didn't advertise it's on sale? Don't follow that logic.
Also, Two Tribes has had Wii U downloads on sale before, so I'm sure the 3DS downloads won't be an exception. Just wait until it's $2 again if you're that hard up for cash.

They won't go out of business. They have done a similar thing to what the Bioshock Infinite guy did but somehow managed to get a different response. (i.e lay off all the staff). But they kept all the IP separate.

I just thought it was a 3DS game.
I just realized this is the 3DS section. There is a Wii U version of Edge as well. It was also $1.99 but I'm assuming that's gone up in price too. I keep forgetting to check the eShop when I'm home
