Okay, so my 3ds did something scary 5 minutes ago!
I accidentally turned it off. When I turn it back on, the light that usually flashes red when the 3ds is about to die did not flash. Instead, it just glow a creepy dark red for about 3 seconds.
something similar happened to a friend of mine when he blowed in the R button to fix.... but the led gradually changed colors....

Quite awhile ago, my 3DS's notification light was stuck glowing faintly green for awhile, to no detriment to the system. My guess is that something similar is happening with you, only it's red instead of green.
