Topic: Transferring between consoles?

Hi people, I'm hoping someone in the know can inform me on this matter. I did a quick google search but the various articles are slightly contradictory. My question:

I'm about to sell my 3DS XL as I've preordered a C-stick toting, xenoblade compatible replacement. What do I need to do to transfer my current eshop downloads to the new console? And do I NEED both consoles present to make such a transition? (I'd prefer to sell the old one ahead of time)
And why on earth aren't the downloads linked to your NNID? What a terrible system.

Thanks in advance.

I believe you need BOTH consoles to be able to do the system transfer. I've heard of people phoning up Nintendo, explaining their situation and having the transfer done remotely (not entirely sure how that works) but not sure they will do it, as there will be thousands of users in your situation. It's a bit of a risk and probably better just to keep both consoles and do the system transfer yourself.

Mmmmm. That's the kind of crap situation I'd feared. Who on earth came up with such a system?
The annoying thing is, when the new system has been released, the old one will probably drop in value by about the same amount it costs to rebuy the games I'd lose (if I wait til they're on offer, which'd be fine given that I'd already finished them all).
Please comment anyone else who knows the issue.

Yeah I'm actually in a similar situation. Was going to trade-in my XL but then realised I need to do a system transfer. So was going to sell my old XL on ebay instead but as you said, the price and demand for it will drop significantly. Real backward move from Nintendo using this system, just punishing the customers who want to upgrade.

The XL comes with a 4GB SD card. doesn't it? I'm wondering if it's possible to simply buy a new 4GB card and replace your current one with it. Then when the new 3DS comes out, do a transfer via PC. Obviously you'd need an adapter for the Micro SD.

I'm told the games are somehow linked to the physical system. The official transfer is needed to alter that. I'm gonna try and just do it today and then I'll report back what's needed etc.
