My top screen on my 3DS has been getting a few little dots (looks like dust I guess) all over it. I've tried to wipe it off when a cloth I clean my glass with, and a tshirt, but they don't move. They also seem to be getting worse. I am not sure if they are scratches or not, but I sure hope not (also sucks that the bottem screen smudges onto the top screen). Anyone have any idea of how to get these off?? Those specs are real noticeable when the 3D is on

Try exhaling on the screen and then wiping them off. If that doesn't work, then they may be scratches. A good idea to keep the screens scratch-free is to insert a piece of soft foam or a glasses cleaning cloth between the screens when the 3DS is closed.

Will do that. It just seems odd for those little specs to be scratches. It's like they are multiplying.

I recently had to send my 3ds off to Nintendo's Repair Shop due to a faulty "A" button. I also mentioned to Nintendo that I had permanent vertical lines of dirt on my 3ds top screen. At first, I was able to simply do as @LztheBlehBird suggested (exhaling and wiping dirt away with my thumb). However, over time, the dirt/scratches got worse and eventually I was unable to remove them by cleaning.
Nintendo fixed my "A" button....... AND replaced my top screen with a new one!! No more dirt - HOWEVER, I noticed that my system was starting to get more lines of dirt just from opening and closing it (again....grrrrr :3 )
So, I stuck a microfiber cloth (it came with an extra pack of 3DS stylus') between the two screens only to discover that lines of dirt were STILL showing up!
I eventually came to this conclusion: The 3DS was ill-designed and the only way to prevent these vertical lines of dirt from appearing is to NEVER shut the handlheld. Sounds crazy, right? (It is!) I ordered from Nintendo.com a 3DS stand (yep, the same one that comes with Kid Icarus: Uprising) and I keep my 3DS open and resting on that when not playing it.
@Bezerker, Unfortunately, you are 100% correct. I have never shut my 3DS without something between the screens, and there are still marks on my top screen. What I have started doing is rolling up the piece of cloth I use so that it just goes between the outer edge of the screen. It holds it open by about a 1/4 of an inch so the screens don't rub in any way. Unfortunately I can't fit the 3DS in its case this way.

The 3DS wasn't designed very well unfortunately. I currently have dust under my screen... urgh, I don't want to send it in, but my right speaker and touch screen really need replacing... however, I have no receipt for it (since I won it) and I my warranty has run out.
I don't particularly want to spend £50-£100 on repairing it and also lose my console for 4 or 5 weeks. :/
Yeah, it's an amazing system with a few design flaws. Has Nintendo ever publicly addressed the issue of the bottom screen scratching the top screen? It really is unacceptable, seeing as they have had many clam shell handhelds before the 3DS.

I don't get scratches on mine, or the circle pad imprint (I have the Midnight Purple) send them in for them to replace your bumpers for bigger ones. I DO however get a lot of dust. I wipe it away and they come back eventually in a couple minutes. When I put my 3DS in my pocket I put it in this which I got from Club Nintendo but is no longer available. So it's not dust getting in between when its in my pockets, it's dust when it's opened.
Well you have the Midnight Purple 3DS, so you just got it. Wait a few weeks/months and then see what your top screen looks like.

Is that a threat?
Yes I'm threatening to go to your house and scratch your 3DS's top screen. Little does everyone know, I'm the reason for all the scratched 3DS screens. Muahaha!!!
