@tendoboy: the NSMB series hasn't really taken anything from the GB handheld series, though, so that's not what i'm talking about.

Oh, you want a NSMB style game with elements from SMB2? Well, many of the enemies that originated in SMB2 have appeared in later games (Bob-Ombs, Pokey, Shy Guy, Birdo, etc.). There were Bob-Ombs and Pokeys in NSMB DS and NSMB Wii)

She specified what she wanted in her first post...

There were bob-ombs in SMB3, pokeys in SMW, shy guys in SMW2:YI and shy guys and Birdo in SMRPG. As i stated before, i'd like to see other things that we haven't seen again, things other than enemies — picking up vegetables and items to throw and build pathways, hidden doors, potions leading to a dark world to explore, and SMB2-style bosses. phanto and magic carpets and POW-blocks and bird-beak portals and chains to climb and stuff.

Nintendo will never go back to SMB2, it's just too different from the rest of the series. The closest we got was the crouch power-jump in Super Mario 3D Land.

'too different' my foot; it's chock full of ideas that aren't being used at the moment. it could be just what Mario needs to freshen up his platformers.

@theblackdragon

Too different meaning it doesn't have the normal jump-and-stomp mechanics, coins, and powerups found in ?-Blocks.

@tendoboy: i'm not sure what you're trying to say. the original post asks what we want to see, and this is what I want to see. don't like it? think it's too different to ever happen? too bad, it's still what i want to see.

Anyway, I'd also like to see a NSMB game more like Super Mario Bros. 2.

Flying carpets with shy guys on them and that weird bird thing that eats you at the end of the level. <3

Just for you.

Mario Generations heh heh.

Or how about a full game based around the Mario 64X4 concept. Mutiple playable chracters all with different skills that allow you to complete a level in different ways.

Also for the next NSMB game add in physics based on the chracter. Was slightly annoyed when Miyamoto said the rason peach wasn't playable was because they didn't want to make her animation too floaty.

WAT!

I wouldn't want it to be called "Super Mario 3D Land 2" whatever shape it takes.

Call it Super Mario Land 4. Keep it simple.

Too different meaning it doesn't have the normal jump-and-stomp mechanics, coins, and powerups found in ?-Blocks.

There was no standard Mario formula back when Super Mario Bros. 2 was released. Its not fair to compare it to what came later. Being too different is only an issue when certain mechanics have already been established as to what makes a Mario game and a new game goes against it completely. Being different to Super Mario Bros. 1, well one game does not a pattern make.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Bubbab5

This game did not meet my expectations so I really don't want a second one I want a Mario Sunshine sequel not a boring linear game it was cool at 1st but once you beat it has NO replay value at all most the levels were simple and way to linear Nintendo needs to stop over exaggerating games that aren't that good or at least in my opinion MK7 will have to hold me off till next year now.(sigh) bored

. Heads up my name online on the 3DS and Xbox Live is Bubbab5 to let you guys know. My 3DS FC 5412 9927 8618

Don't get me wrong I love almost all Mario games except this one I mean it took me 3 days to beat it while other Mario games take me atleast a month or 2 to completely beat it.

I too think I'd like to see some SMB2 influences in the next Super Mario 3D Land game.

Well since I have no belief in any sequel being produced, I'll just post what I would have liked or what I think would be great DLC for the game.

1) Minigames: Like Mario 64 DS had, basically something for some repetitive fun and multiplayability.
2) A Hub: Making it more of a Mario 64 style, with unlockables etc.
3) Extra Levels: Of course, because what else would DLC be used for?

I think it's a good 3DS game, and I have 36 hours on it now (most of any software so far), but I've finished all levels with 3 star coins in all. The map seems dull, and although it was well made, the game feels rushed and that they could have added a lot more, especially considering its expectations and the hype they gave it about being one of their top games. Hopefully DLC can be used to add more content to keep people happy - but they should have added more to start with.

Also - what happened to shy guy?

RPG elements would be cool. I'm being serious too.

Would love a big open world to explore. Basically, a giant hub. And there'd be certain points where you jump into levels (Like in SM64DS, where you can go into an entirely different level, within a level- referring to Luigi's portrait in the haunted house level). It'd be fun to explore the entire mushroom kingdom and be able to do some quests, or, challenges from it's citizens.

I liked SMRPG's interface where you have the overworld map and when you select a "level", you have a nice big place to explore, or at least, depends on what you consider big. Mixing Mario's RPG game elements with his core platforming game elements would be an interesting twist. Maybe best suited for WiiU? Maybe SM3DL2 should stick with the formula it set in the original but expand on it.

SM3DL is a lot of fun but I hope that the next Mario platformer on 3DS isn't like this one as it feels rushed. Also, I hope that if the next Mario 3DS game is a 3D platformer I hope the levels are more complex rather than the simple levels in this one and I also hope that it goes back to the same format as other 3D Mario platformers with a health bar, visiting levels multiple times with different objectives, Mario being more acrobatic and most importantly a hub or at least a world map that doesn't look like something you'd see in beta screenshots and isn't just a straight line. Although, I like the idea KomicZ mentioned too and it would be interesting to see how that would work.

Terave

Why a sequel if you should work on a new (better) game? It's fun though, but it's not the best game I've ever played. It feel good, but not more than that.

What makes you think a Super Mario Land sequel will be released on the same console? We should rather be focusing on a whole new Mario game with fresh ideas/combinations.
Seriously, it hasn't even been a month yet.
