So it was confirmed today that a new 3D Mario game would be appearing on the 3DS! Thoughts? Impressions? We've only gotten a few screen shots, but I'm already excited for this game.
I love rpgs and platformers the most... racing games are good too! I have a black dsi and a blue 3DS. :D "Sometimes we put up walls, not to keep people out, but rather to see who will take the time to break them down." 3DS friend code: 3695 0029 5257
Of course I'm pumped for Super Mario! Not only is it another title in a fantastic series, but it is coming from the geniuses behind the Super Mario Galaxy series, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and Flipnote Studio! Plus, it looks like it will have a blend of 3D Mario 64-esque gameplay and elements from the Mario sidescrollers (the Small Mario screenshot and the tail in the logo seem to hint about that). I cannot wait for E3!

This game is by the makers of Super Mario Galaxy and it looks a lot like the Super Mario Galaxy games! I'm really looking forward to this game. I hope it releases this summer although it will more than likely be in autumn.
The tail on the O in the logo looks like this game will be hearken back to Super Mario World 3!
Today was more wonderful than ever!

This looks much more up my alley than previous 3D Marios. Even ignoring the tail (which is quite difficult), there's little Mario! To that I say: About fluxxing time.

What's so fantastic about little mario?

Nothing necessarily "fantastic" about little Mario, but it's a hint at a style change to make the games more like the originals (along with the tail and the choice of name). It's a staple of the Super Mario games that he starts off small and grows bigger when he eats a mushroom. It's neat, and I don't see why it was ever removed. The health bar makes the games often easier than they should be since you have so much health and it's so easily replenished. I can't think of the last time I died in a 3D Mario game from losing health, always it's from falling.
Of course, it could be that he just has a mini-mushroom in that screenshot. I should have considered that. But I would guess not. Very excited to find out, one way or the other. I hope they don't keep us waiting too long for this one.
The goomba certainly adds to the resemblance, though there should be another brick on each side of the bottom formation and one fewer brick in the middle, if that's what they're going for.
It looks like another Galaxy game, and I have evidence! In the last picture there is a star coin in the upper left hand corner. Of course, they could use that in any sort of setting, but it is a good hint.
I'm not so sure, weren't we collecting star coins in NSMB Wii too ?

Nice to see someone else excited about the use of little Mario. I cannot say why i recently haven't wondered about him missing from the 3D games. It's such a natural thing to do and could change the formula enough to make it feel really different from all the other 3D Mario-platformers. The use of brick-platforms like in the 2D games is another thing that could enrich the 3D worlds and make them less shallow. (See sceenshot with the goomba)
All in all i have to say this announcement has me over-excited for this game now. And that's very rare. It's just that i can see the potential of it being a blend of Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. The hidden exits and items of Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. paired and incorperated into a 3D Mario game. Sounds like an absolute dream i didn't even know i had before. And it wouldn't need a Galaxy setting for feeling great. Oh man, i really shouldn't get so excited for this game.
