What about Rune Factory, never got into the Harvest Moon games, RF I liked because of the whole RPG elements. (and exploring dungeons and fighting enemies/bosses)

Keep it PG-13-ish.
As far as I can tell, all both series have in common is that you can pay virtual money upgrade your virtual house, interact with virtual characters, and water plants (flowers in AC) with a watering can.
Animal crossing is all about making money to decorate your house/town, and befriending animals. In real time. It's relaxing and you don't have real goal or motivation, outside of paying your house.
HM/SoS is about making money and improving your farm by growing plants, taking care of animals and befriending the people living in the village/finding a partner to start a family. In this one you have a fantasy take on the progression of time and seasons, days last minutes and entire seasons usually last only 30 days. These games have story lines and endings, even if you can usually keep playing past the credits.
It's actually not even close. That was a very basic description. Basically farming is how you make money, and it actually requires effort. The fantasy time aspect forces a lot more attention on managing your time, since time goes by much faster than in Animal Crossing. You interact with characters, but unlike AC, they're actual people with storylines and slightly deeper personalities attached to them (usually).
I generally prefer Rune Factory because I find the stories to be a little deeper, the fantasy elements more exciting, and there tends to be more to it than in HM thanks to the exploration, combat, and RPG mechanics.
Bachelors in these games usually have extra requirements before they'll accept your marriage proposal. The usual ones are:
-max their friendship (red heart/flower/etc in their dialogue box).
-have the largest house.
-have a large bed.
-see all their social events, usually four of them. These happen under certain triggers.
I love Fogu! Haha, I used to use it all the time back when I had Tale of Two Towns when the remake for the 3ds came out.
Is anyone else bothered by how young Mistel looks? I mean, I love his personality SO much but he just looks so young to me that...I just cannot court him. I feel so uncomfortable if that makes any sense. I get they want to make younger looking bachelors for younger players though.
I don't really have a favorite bachelor and the one I was successful courting in one file was Klaus. He got annoying after a while with his constant "Age gap!!! I'm grandpa!!!" quotes. Other than that though, he is maybe the one I favor the most? Maybe? I love his design a lot and his personality is actually really adorable. Like a dorky middle aged man LOL.
I might go for Kamil this time around...if I can resist Klaus anyway. It's always hard not to go after the first original bachelor you did go for in games, at least for me. I ran into the same problem in Rune Factory 4 with Dylas. Oops.
Most HM games let you have one child, I think the only ones where you can have up to two are the first one for SNES, GBC 3, Tree of Tranquility/Animal Parade and this one.
And yeah, most HM games have marriage and pregnancy.
