Dragon Quest monsters batch 10. With DQM Terry's Wonderland 3DS due at the end of May, SqEnix JP is simultaneously releasing a DQM Encyclopedia with over 1,500 creatures. I imagine it will be a source of inspiration.
Here's Ray Charles. He "plays" the piano while moving (his "hands" are actually feet) while the keyboard makes piano sounds. I didn't know that the striped part had that sound effect until I took Ray out and blew my mind.
I also made Elton John loosely modeled after the first Greatest Hits LP cover. Like Ray, he also "plays" the keyboard.
And here's something Japanesque to express my thanks to you for following this thread. (I'm not quitting or anything--I just wanted to say thanks.)
If anyone's wondering, everything I make uses 20 parts. More often than not I build things up and then strip away a part here, obscure a limb there and manage to meet that restriction. It's certainly like Lego the way you put parts together from random piles of parts. But to me, it's more a puzzle in which the challenge is to recreate recognizable characters with that tiny pool of parts. I've had to abandon lots of ideas as hopeless or too crappy looking, though.
I also use moving parts as much as I can. I know I can make more realistic looking arms and legs if I didn't use limb parts, for instance, but I'd rather sacrifice a little realism for the sake of motion.
Anyways, Dragon Quest monsters batch 11.
It's hard to believe this thing used only 20 parts.
And then, some deceptively simple designs end up eating so many parts, they're impossible to complete.
This is supposed to have a Nazi swastika, but I didn't want to do one. The iron cross only takes four parts. A swastika costs five, if it's even possible to get the pieces lined up neatly enough.
