Okay, it seems that you're required to pay sales tax anytime you want to buy a game on the eShop. Why? I already payed sales tax on the Prepaid card! The old "points system" bypassed this requirement somehow, and it seems stupid that we now have to pay in bizzare increments. (Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening cost me $6.32) If "points" instead of "$" allow for tax to be bypassed, I don't see why we can't just use those.
I didn't have to pay sales tax on the prepaid card.(or the points for that matter.) But I got tax on the games too. I got to admit I'm annoyed about that.
I receive sales tax when buying Wii/DSi points with my credit card through the shops, yet I don't get sales tax when buying the points card at the store with cash. I live in Indiana.
Yeah, it's hardly tax evasion if you were already forced to pay tax on the card in the first place. That seems silly that they do charge tax on a cash card though — maybe ask the store you bought it from as it might have been a mistake.
Depending on where you are in the US, some states (or counties) have passed new laws and regulations regarding the taxation of internet transactions. It sucks, but them's the breaks — it was a long time coming, anyway, lol. They tax everything else, after all. :3
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3
[16:43] James: I should learn these site rules more clearly
[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!

The IRS and local & state taxing authorities may beg to differ. If you're providing false information in order to avoid paying taxes you are supposed to be paying, that is tax evasion.
i, for one, miss the Nintendo Points in a way. at least i paid taxes once for a bulk amount. now i get taxed for every download. so now i buy $10 through the 3DS with a C.C. (not sure if that was taxed), but after buying one game for $1.99 plus tax, i've ended up with an amount that will be very difficult to zero out. granted it will just a chunk of change, but still...
I don't mind paying tax, but I shouldn't have to pay it to get the card just to have to pay it again on the eShop. That's pretty stupid no matter how you look at it. >: (

Contact your local/state/federal legislators, and let them know. Unless you're under voting age, in which case, they won't care.
