Did anyone notice that if you have 3D on during battles, sometimes lag/slowdown/frame rate issues occur. I'm not mad or anything, but I'm wondering if I'm alone on this. Somehow...I don't think "We wanted to focus on the over world more" was the only reason they took out 3D for the over world. (BTW it was a good idea to take the 3D out of the over world).
Well that reason does work. Using 3D requires extra power from the system, so by having it off they are able to use that power for other things like more polygons.
And yeah, it definitely can chug along during battles. I just leave it off all the time, despite the fact I love 3D. It's poorly implemented here because they are doing so much else with the system.
@Swiket Might be the SD Card being used then. I'm 100% serious.
You may be correct .... because I notice no such slow down. My SD card is a class 10. But meh.
Honestly, I don't see a difference, and still wonder why they didn't do the over world with the parallax effect enabled. It's pretty and all, but not any more fabulous than say Tales of the Abyss 3D. Not much will truly disappoint me in this, but unless I start seeing "wow" world sections that look so realistic you'd swear they were photographs, I am not impressed with it.

NNID: KittenKoder ..... what else would it be?
No guys, it's not SD card or anything. there IS lag with 3D on at certain points in battles. That's why I have the 3D off 100% of the time in this game. Jeez Game Freak.

Hm ... well, I don't notice it at all. But then, I'm still use to the 2D sprite graphics and anything is an improvement to that, so meh. That was kind of my point.
Give them a break, at least there was not a huge delay while waiting for some microchip or something.

The only times I notice any slow down is when I turn the 3D on or when the game does that "divided screen, showing both pokemon at the same time" thing.
I've noticed some slowdown but it hasn't been bad enough for me to turn off 3D. It seems to occur more with certain Pokémon. First slowdown I noticed was when I had my first Bunnelby vs Bunnelby on Route 2. Just having them stand there was enough to cause little slowdown. Strangely enough I've had Bunnelby vs Bunnelby quite a few times and sometimes I have frame rate issues and other times I don't. Might have been because of different scenery though. I've noticed Bunnelby slowdown the most since I had it with me until it evolved and got boxed. The opponent doesn't have to be another Bunnelby. Some Pokémon just seem to generate more frame rate drops.
There is definitely frame rate loss in the battles, even with the 3d off. Its just much worse with the 3d on, I swear sometimes with the 3d on and the split screen camera the frame rate must of been around 10-15 maximum. It doesn't actually affect the game that much, and it doesn't happen to often so I'm not that bothered, but I do find it baffling that there is so much frame rate loss.
The game looks fantastic and everything, but if you look in the background most of the trees and stuff are 2d billboards (they still look great), the Pokemon themselves though do look quite high poly. Its strange that you can view those 3d street pass puzzle panels in 3d just fine and i would argue they are at a similar detail level (although less animations i guess).
If I were to guess what was causing it, I reckon it could be a shader or post processing effect causing the lag. I've noticed in some parts of x and y seem to have some sort of blur effect / anti aliasing, which is the first time I've seen anything like that on the 3ds actually .
Sometimes there is even slowdown with 3D off. Generally it seems to happen with my Butterfree in a battle, when the camera shows the two side by side. Again, it doesn't really impact gameplay, but it kind of sucks you out of the moment.
This suprised the hell outta me too, including the fact that 3D is not used in the overworld besides caves. Some of the locations are begging fo the 3D slider to be turned on yet its not implemented. Heres a tip, i only use 3D in caves and cutscenes, those are the only places that 3D is used well if not at all. Even battles in caves and gyms when the 3 D is turned on are pretty flawless, i do turn it off in the outside areas of the overworld, that is where battles get laggy for me. But if the 3D is turnedoff, then they run amazingly for me. I wonder if it would be better with the XL
