Topic: Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon discussion

Wrong, wrong. You're supposed to use the blessed Sacred Stone that you get near the end of the game, all while singing the Pokemon theme into the 3DS microphone and tapping ABXY in rhythm. Rockruff must be at the front of your party, with either Marshadow or Shaymin at the sixth spot. Finally, Rockruff must evolve at the top of the hour on the dot, otherwise the evolution fails.

I also heard there's a special random stat boost if you nickname your Rockruff Ephraim or Eirika, but ONLY if you catch it on a Thursday evening in December.

Wailord in the first spot, Relicanth in the last. Remember that one? Now that was random...

You guys are joking about this but...lets flashback a moment.

Catch a Wailord and Relicanth
Go to a specific spot and dive, then resurface at a specific point.
Use Dig at the back.
Put Wailord at the front of your party and Relicanth at the back.

Go to a hidden ruin on Route 105.
Stand and watch the inscription for teo minutes.
Catch Regice.

Go to the ruin in the desert.
Move two spaces down and two spaces right and use a HM.
Catch Regirock.

Go to the ruin on Route 120.
Use a HM in the exact center of the room.
Catch Registeel.

Show Regice to a girl in Mauville City and get the Snowball/CasteliaCone or give it the Never Melt Ice to hold.
Give Regice a nickname.

Return to where you found Regice in the daytime specifically and capture Regigigas.

@Tsurii My copy of Ruby never came with the braille page. I think it was a US copy...

@Octane @DarthNocturnal Strength on a truck is exactly why stuff like that exists.

When people first saw that THAT laundry list of steps was to get Regigigas in ORAS they thought it was a joke.

The other legendaries arent much better.

To get Giratina you need both Dialga and Palkia in your party. One is only in OR the other in AS. To get either of them to pop up you need Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf in your party.

To get them to show up you need three Pokemon with max happiness in your party and go someone at certain hourly intervals during the day (Its like 6 hour slots) to catch just one of them. It cycles through all 3 per day.

To get Kyurem you need both Reshiram and Zekrom in your party. Version exclusive again. To get THEM you need a Lv100 Pokemon in your party.

To get Cobalion/Terrakion/Virizion you need 3 Pokemon with max EVs in your party and go somewhere on specific days. The day determines which appears.

To get Entei/Raikou/Suicune you need Ho-oh or Lugia in your party. Go to a spot and every 20 minutes it changes which and cycles through in order.

But to get Ho-oh or Lugia you need to initiate a side quest and find a hidden item underwater with no way to tell where it is. You take this to someone and then go back to battle the bird.

@Tsurii I /think/ they hint at the nickname. Dont know about the item and time of day.

Part of me misses those events, esp the ones in gen 4 (minus regigigas..), made the encounters for the legends something more special rather than grindy with just going to a location and catching them all with no actual build up to the experience cough oras

I never played anything beyond HGSS, so I didn't even know about the legendaries in ORAS.

@Tsurii I should clarify, I don't own anything beyond HGSS. I played a bit of either Black or White, can't remember, and I've played some Y and Sun. Not enough to complete them or anything like that though.

I don't like the visual style of Black & White, it was really off-putting, and I don't own a 3DS...

At this point I'm just hoping for a port or a new game on the Switch next year or the year after.

@Octane They confirmed the next game after Ultra is on Switch so...

@BLP_Software considering GF was looking for new staff with experience in HD-gaming last summer, I'd say they've been developing the Switch entry for probably half a year already. That doesn't mean it'll be out in 2018, but it is certainly a possibility.

@AlliMeadow Well ORAS was beginning development in 2012 right? Means they likely have two teams that cross over a lot.

I have no complaints about how the Regis were handled in the original Gen 3 games. I used a translation key in an R/S guide to figure out the Braille. Overall I found the build-up quite fun. How Regigigas was handled in ORAS though...just no. Don't force me to nickname my Pokemon a stupid nickname (I don't even normally nickname them). How many of the other legendaries were handled wasn't bad per se, but some of them could have used more build-up vs. "Show up at this certain time on a Tuesday". Some of how that was done didn't even make any logical sense.

Entei: Right. See you two in 20 minutes.
Suicune: grumbles about just getting off shift 20 minutes ago

At least the Delta Episode handled things right. Best part of my OR playthrough, IMO.

XY aren't terrible games on their own, but I feel that they're the weakest non-spinoffs. I actually almost quit playing Y before getting to the second gym because the story really started to drag for me at that point. It slightly improved after that, but that's not saying much. I liked more of the new 'Mons in Gen 6 than 5, but the latter's storytelling and extras blew its successor out of the water.

I think gen 6 is one of the better-designed generations too. It hurt 5 to make so dang many new Pokemon. When it came time to make the belated Switch to 3D it took so much effort to just 3D model all of the hundreds legacy Pokemon — many of which weren't even obtainable in X or Y — the strain fell upon the rest of the game. If we're honest PokeSwitch is probably going to be the same kind of stripped down experience, as will any new Pokemon until they start to drop some of the many, many old Pokemon that are dragging their development down.

And it'll only get worse every generation. I think they need to settle on some kind of simple yet visually pleasing style and just reuse as much as they can every new generation.

@Octane The Pokemon XY Models for Pokemon are done by Creatures Inc. In fact they are the ones used in Pokedex 3D Pro from Generation 5. So they only had to model the gen 6 pokemon and retexture gen 1-5.

Plus given its been seen the Pokemon models in Sun and Moon scale to 1080p really well...lets say theyve got that covered

@Octane ...Or they could make games that look good and just leave out 500 old Pokemon most players won't use. The series has become about compatibility with every old gimmick Pokemon instead of, y'know, the new game we're paying to play. It would be so easy to just include past starters and standouts like Pikachu and Lucario — maybe even some legendaries — and just forget the rest in favor of creating 100 or so brand new Pokemon. These weird half generations like XY and SM don't feel new because the actually new Pokemon are so few and far between.

@BLP_Software Is that true? They outsourced the old 3D models? Don't Creatures usually help with Pokemon's development in other ways though, making for a strain on dev resources all the same?
