Not keen on the starters, the owls nice and the cat could evolve into something better but I'm not feeling them so far. I really like the Moon legendary though.
That's a cool video. A lot better than the english trailer lol definitely will be getting a copy for each of my kids. That is going to cost me alot. I hope it's really not going to be $60 a game here in Canada. Definitely getting them during E3 since chances are it will be 30% off games.
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
I'm growing fonder of Litten. But... are we at risk of reaching Peak Fire Lion? Pyroar was a pretty obvious attempt to make a fire lion. Solgaleo looks like a more blistering, radiant, and generally majestic version of Pyroar.
And I was just thinking about what Litten would evolve into... Being a small cat, you'd expect it to eventually become... well, a big cat. And what is the most famous big cat? A lion. That would be a lot of fire lions...
Maybe we'll get a fire leopard, cheetah, or tiger!
I loved the new legendaries! They look really nice, but I still prefer the bat, so its Team Moon for me.
The legendaries... I found them quite good, but not breathtaking. They are far cuter than last gen's, the little owl is a far cry from Chespin. I think I'll go with the water starter as always, but any of those three seems like a good option.
The only nitpick I have with the american trailer is that both trainers that were fighting the main character looked like your friend/nice guy/nice girl, following gen 6 idea of rivals. When will we go back to badass rivals, Game Freak? Why can't we have a rival like Silver again?
A dual-typed grass starter who doesn't look generic as all get out: who knew?
Still though, with these character designs and that trailer I can't help but feel that Pokemon is just phoning it in. Look how much better the gen 4 starters are just from a visual design standpoint (you'll notice that their colors aren't all washed out or single-tone):
Sun and Moon look really impressive. Makes me worried that they are actually ising the extra power of the New 3DS and since I own the original, my game will be sluggish
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
They already released 2D art for all the new starters:
Okay, the owl does look like a cute little weirdo. But that's basically cheating: I always pick grass starters and this is coming after the disaster that was chespin. Pokemon does need to get its coloring sorted out, though. All the pokemon look washed out.
I was totally right about the water starter being a circus seal, by the way. Even before I saw this art. There's no way that the frill around its neck doesn't grow into a big, ugly clown frill FYI.
What do people mean when they say the colours are washed out? There's definitely greater colour variation in Gen 4 (which I don't think makes them automatically better designs), but I can't find fault with the colouring of the new critters.
Do people mean that Popplio should be a different shade of blue? Or something more complex?

The cat is black and red, the seal is a flat blue, the owl... actually has a decent three-tone scheme going on, but it's light shade just makes it look washed out. They just look kinda ugly to me in game. Especially seal boi.
The starters are okay-ish. Not a big fan of the legendaries though. The problem with the owl and the cat are that they don't really look grass and fire to me. The owl looks like an ice Pokémon, it's cute though, but it can use a bit more of green. The sea lion is fine, definitely better than that otter thing from gen 5.
The first second I saw the starters my reaction was "God these are ugly". But no, they actually grew on me really quickly. It's the Legendaries I'm not crazy about yet. So far I think I will go with Sun and probably Rowlet.
Ironically I think Rowlet has the least interesting concept of the three — flaming hairball and bubble circus sea lion are pretty neat ideas. But I guess a grass bird hasn't really been done before iirc so it's still neat. And cute.
@Octane I don't see how Rowlet looks Ice type at all... But it could use a bit more green.
@FriedSquid: Predominantly white face and beak, what looks like a think coat of brown fur. Looks like a little yeti-owl to me. I wouldn't have guessed grass-type if it wasn't for that bowtie.
@123ash3:
All diferences we know now are the legendaries, Sun's got what looks like a fire sphinx and Moon has a giant bat.
Most likely they'll show more differences down the road.
@Haru17: I can kind of see what you mean; I don't think they look fantastic when lined up against each other (they seem to clash slightly), and my initial impressions were slightly underwhelming (apart from Rowlet), but I've grown quite fond of each of them individually - as have a lot of other people, apparently.
It's true that Popplio is pretty much a flat blue (apart from the nose and frill), but I think that's more-or-less in keeping with the sleek, shiny, one-tone aesthetics of actual sea leans and seal-like creatures. I don't think you could add too many colours without reducing some of that sleekness.
I quite liked how Rowlet was a departure from the "just make it green and stick some leaves on it" philosophy that defined most of the Grass starters so far. It feels more like its own Pokemon - that happens to be a Grass Type, rather than an a forced effort to make it THE Grass starter of this generation. And I think the pale shade of tan looks quite soft and appealing.
Litten was originally the one I had the most trouble with - mainly because its eyes seemed too garishly yellow and scowly, and its pupils seemed too close to the centre of its head. I think I quite like the black and red though. I definitely like the band-like markings on its legs that look like 90s tube socks. And the fact its back bristles when it attacks.
Those illustrations give them a lot more personality and character than they had in the official reveal trailer, anyway!
