@Detective_TeeJay: Dragons are supposed to be a more common kind of legendary. Also Dragon is really only good against Dragon which would mean there wouldn't be a way to balance it out. If another starter was fairy, it would have a clear advantage over the dragon. If there isn't a fairy then the Dragon starter would be the obvious one to pick since Dragons are normally so strong/get great moves.
It just doesn't seem like having a starter dragon would be a good idea.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
I don't really see Chesnaught as a knight. Sure his back could be "armor" but he seems totally exposed on his limbs and knights normally use weapons, but Chesnaught uses his fists... I just don't really see it. The other two I can totally see as Mage and Ninja.

He's more of a samurai than a knight but are very similar roles which fits in better with the ninja.
Well, protean Greninja is a thing, so it's obvious game freak doesn't care about fairness or "starter equality"
At least it can't be obtained as a true starter, I guess.
Thing is though, Protean is Greninja's HA, which you can't get when you pick it in the main game. So it's no different than giving out Dragon type to Megas, it throws off the balance in competitive but within the main game it's still balanced.
Coro Coro has published things that weren't true, before. I think they posted Fennekin, and that was real, but the other starters were fake, or something similar.

I'd say he's more based around the concept of a "tank" (which are usually just knights), which explains the emphasis on defense and the shield.

I'd like to see them balance Ninjask more. As of now, Ninjask is useless unless its a 2-6 battle. One on one is just a joke for the bug. It can't even learn steel wing or fly which is funny because Volcarona and Dodrio take fly as a joke.
While the're at it, few additions like Shedinja being unaffected by weather effects should also be fixed to give a pure balance for that one.
Well, Shedinja is literally an empty discarded husk of a nincada. Volcarona is a giant mythical moth. If one of them can transport a kid around with fly, I'd say the giant moth has the better chances.
Though it may be a bit destructive, with all the explosive dust it releases with each wing flap...
I can imagine Ninjask being a low priority, it's pretty much a fodder pokemon to make up the numbers and Shedninja is just a gimmick pokemon which would ruin the metagame.
@Socar Ninjask doesn't really need balanced, ninjask can preform two roles: baton pass or sweeper.. sweeper jask is usually just setting up sub+SD+speed boost and using aerial ace/x-scissor to desimate an entire team. Baton pass just pass boost to something that will currently destroy and sweep and entire team. The only reason why this strat isn't as effective in gen 6 is due to the fact scolipede now is capable of doing it with hidden ability changes, and he has better overall stats/typing to do it (although he lacks easy switch ins that ninjask could come in on like banded EQ).
I'd love a mega ninjask but the base pokemon itself is pretty strong.
Also shedinja should stay the way it is, actually in the current meta one team on smogon ladders that feature shedinja has become a broken core everybody started complaining about. He's a team support reliant mon and that's fine as it makes for a diverse citeria of playstyles. He's by no means a "gimmick" and neither is his counterpart.
Starting next month, CoroCoro will feature Sun&Moon news every month; That's something to look forward to I guess. Anything on Sun&Moon that gets 'leaked' by CoroCoro in the coming days is fake by default.

Or think of it this way.

Since they're aiming to hit the nostalgia this time I would guess at animal-like starters for S/M. The legendaries probably have something t do with sun/moon creation theories, meaning possible ties to D/P/Pt which fits since Gen 7 would make sense for remakes of those games.

That maybe so but the weather effects still make it unfair since its immune to those type attacks.
I still want Ninjask to learn more moves though. Its more useful to me.
@arronishere: Well, what with the 20th anniversary this year, and the release of all the old games. Also, in the trailer they mentioned "bringing it all together" which presumably suggests using elements from older games.
