I like most of the new Pokémon, I love Vikavolt and Tapu Koko. Tapu Koko is especially interesting, great ability, cool design and the way it transforms from a totem-looking chicken head into a fierce tribal warrior. I'm not too crazy about Togedemaru though, it seems a little off to me. Anyways what's with the spoiler-tags? If people don't want news about Sun and Moon they shouldn't visit the designated thread…
Well, we've got this generation's Pikatwo out of the way. I really like the Tiki Deity, which according to the trailer is the Sacred Guardian/Protective God of only one of the islands (Melé Melé island, though I don't know what it's English name is going to be). This might imply that each island has its own guardian, leading to four? Perhaps the legendary trio is being broadened... or maybe one of the islands has the main legendary as its guardian. Or maybe I'm looking too deep into things.
Anyway, it's an interesting bunch. I like the elec bug design a lot. The old man/dragon hybrid is... odd. Big ugly fish is ugly, but in the same way that some big ugly fish actually are. Hard to get too excited over another Pikachu. Catabricker is strange but oddly endearing. I quite like fairy big, but wish it looked less like a bird. I wonder how I'll feel as time goes on...
The designs are so weird looking... I like Tapu Koko the design of that is actually really cool, I just wish it was bigger so that it looks more guardian-like and not just a regular pokemon at first sight, (I first saw it and thought sigilyph finally got an evolution), but the other designs look so weird...
Drampa's design is weird looking but it's not something I wouldn't expect to be a pokemon, it's just an odd appearence but it'll grow on me.
Hedgeachu looks so lazy... it's literally fat white dedenne.. even the spikes on it's back are unnoticable togepi patterns. If they want more pikachu type pokemon they could atleast make the pokemon not look like a rip off of a rip off to pikachu.
Vikavolt doesn't look too bad, it looks pretty good, what I'd hope and imagined for a beetle like people in this region, I just wish its shape was done better as everything looks way too polygonal. Tears in the wings or something would be better, it feels the entire thing was just pieced together like a lego set. I mean I accept that design choice, it seems to be what they were going for to be more "electrical" in appearence, but atleast make it so the wings look like they actually close and fit in the body when it's not flying like heracross.. It's pre-evolution is a minecraft block.. nothing more to say there somebody surely already said something.
Cutiefly.... feels like half of it is missing, this thing better have a good evolution to back up one of the most simple names and design appearences in existance. This is about as creative as voltorb..
The fish... I'll be honest, good direction, triggerfish are hawaii's symbol animal I believe, and it looks like a triggerfish for sure, I just wish it didn't have a female looking appearence to basically be an ugly luvdisc that should never be male.. hopefully there is gender differences but I doubt it.
@MegaBeedrill Maybe the parable of 'The Ugly Luvdisc' will have a poetic conclusion, and it will grow into a beautiful swan (or likely, fish). But I'm not very confident. Still, if it's going to be an ugly shape, at least it's got some interesting colours to look at. In fact, it's ability seems to be 'vivid body', though I'm not sure at the moment what it does...
Its ability is called Dazzling in English and it seems to block priority moves, we saw a leaked English video of Bruxish demonstrating this. Pikachu tries to use Quick Attack on Bruxish but Dazzling causes the move to fail.
@Bolt_Strike Aah, that's interesting. Kangaskhan had its Fake Out blocked in the Japanese trailer, and while priority blocking seemed the most likely, I wasn't sure about ruling out all other options (whether it applied to flinch moves, for instance). Now it seems certain to be a priority killer, which is a really interesting spanner to throw into the works...
Still not the prettiest fish in the sea though. Its name apparently derives from 'bruxism', which is a habit of grinding ones teeth together that can leave to tooth wear and dental problems...
@Maxz, I don't think it's the shape makes it bad at all. It's suspose to be a humuhumunukunukuāpua (hawaiian triggerfish for short lol) and it matches that shape almost perfectly including the teeth, they both have teeth. The only problem I have is the colors and eyelashes that make it seem feminine, it's just looks so ugly when depicted as a feminine mon female or male.
@IceClimbers That makes me appreciate it more actually. I still find the shape of the wings odd as unless they fold up I can't see it hiding them when grounded or anything.
@Bolt_Strike Since gamefreak loves talonflame despite it ruining the entire meta shreading every playstyle, they'll probably make this fish's stats so frail it'll get 2hko'd by banded flare blitz anyway.

So Kangaskhan was trying to use Fake Out. Then yeah, it would have to be a priority blocker. That should really shake up the metagame.
Also, on a very late and rather unrelated note, how did the elf, pixie and spirit that are Azelf, Uxie and Mespirit NOT receive a Fairy type last generation? They're the perfect cut! I was thinking about the Tiki Guardian and its ability (Electric Field, which sets up... that electric field thing), and I remembered there was also a fire and water equivalent? And maybe gras toos? Which makes me think that we will have three or four similar Tiki Guadians, each win a different field generating ability, and dual Fairy/Elemental typing. So a fairy tiki trio (or group of four, whatever the world for that is). Then it struck me as odd that Azelf/Mespirit/Uxie didn't already tick that box.
@IceClimbers Yeah, but I can forgive Celebi because it's already filled its typing quota. I recon if it were remade, they'd go for Grass/Fairy instead, but until with get triple typings (which I doubt we ever will), it'll likely just have to stick it out as Grass/Psychic. But the spirit trio don't have that excuse; they're all just sitting there being boringly Psychic.
@MegaBeedrill Perhaps calling its shape ugly was unfair, it's more the proportions of its eyes and mouth, and I'm in agreement about its overdone lashes and lips. I like its funny flower bulb though.
@Bolt_Strike Yeah. Interestingly the Japanese (and what I assume is original) name is based on a sumo technique in which the user claps their hands in front of their opponent's face in order to catch them off guard and gain the upper hand. How about that...
Bruxish's ability is amazing. It prevents priority attacks from hitting. If Gale Wings counts and this thing has decent stats, then bye-bye Talonflame!!!

Ironically, Bruxish probably learns Aqua Jet.
You have to hope that it has good stats, because countering Talonflame seems to be the point.
My theory about Tapu Koko being one of three or four legendaries - each of whom has an elemental 'terrain' generating ability - has taken a bit of a hit with the revelation that 'Water Terrain' and 'Fire Terrain' don't exist. I was thinking Water Sport was a terrain based move, and I made 'Fire Terrain' up completely. Still, we have Electric Terrain, Grassy Terrain, and Misty Terrain (Fairy-type). It's not implausible that we could get something like 'Icy Terrain' and have a third legendary with an ability that generates that. Or maybe that we get a pure Fairy type with a Misty Terrain generating ability, but it doesn't feel quite right for some reason.
@Maxz Tapu Koko looks like the top of a totem pole when its arms are closed. Perhaps the other guardians will look like other parts of a totem pole, representing the other islands. Plot twist: Magearna is the base, representing the artificial island in the middle.
