Topic: Odd Activity Log to Game Time Discrepancy

Hey, all. I've noticed something strange happening on Pokemon X...

I got the game on the fifth of January. It is currently the ninth of March. The game itself claims I've spent over 99 hours on the game. However, the Activity Log clocks me in at a little over 27 hours.

Why is there such a large difference between the two times? Does it have anything to do with the internet?? I'm not sure if Sleep Mode has anything to do with it or not (original 3DS model), because I recently did a test and no extra time was added when the system was in Sleep Mode.

Anything similar happen to you?

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I'm on YouTube.

It's because the pokemon game counts the hours you have it in sleep mode so I've heard.

Yes its happened a lot to Wii as well. One time I got 25 hours clocked in for a day... :/

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

weird, mine doesn't count the time closed.......
do you have physical or download(maybe it's something that only happens in the download version, or my Y is broken for not doing this...)
scratch that, mine does it as well got a 50 hour difference between the game and the activity log!!!
maybe it's when the 3DS is closed without properly disconnecting the PSS beforehand.

I have a physical copy.

I have kept it in Sleep Mode a number of times, but just today, as a test, I set it in Sleep Mode when watching a movie and the time went from 99:06 to 99:07 from the time I closed it (about halfway through the film) to the time I opened it again (when the credits finished scrolling, so roughly an hour). Of course, it isn't minutes I'm curious about, it's hours.

EDIT: The PSS idea is believable, but strange, isn't it? Every other game that connects to the internet even in the smallest of ways (Colors!3D, for example) completely cut off online communication when Sleep Mode kicks in.

Yeah Pokémon is the only game that give an error message by closing the 3DS with communications on( without being in the middle of a multiplayer play)
but Pokémon acts odd in every online aspect when things go wrong, when you lose connection in the middle of a match it waits the turn to end before ending the match

Actually, every online game will disconnect if you close the 3DS or go to the main menu. Mario Kart 7 did the same

Pokemon BW/2 were like that too.

Leave the DS closed while playing them with the wireless communications on and <if your system is still alive by the time you open it> The in-game clock will think you played all these hours,

I know this is off topic, but I was able to change the brightness in the home menu and return to an online match, but this was while during the stage selection screen, if that matters.

On topic, PSS is technically a background task, which doesn't require as much processing or internet connectivity to work. It's Spotpass. Streetpass probably wouldn't allow this to happen. The 3DS fetches data from the server whether you tell it to or not. In this case, you would be telling it to fetch data, even if the console is in sleep mode.

I'm not surprised by this at all.

In XY, time increases when you have the game suspended but 3DS open, like when using the internet browser, friend list, miiverse, etc. I've tested it before.
Meanwhile activity log counts the time you have the game open and not suspended.
So after 180 hours in Activity Log, I have 250 in game.
