I got a notofication on my 3DS XL saying You've got company' in Mii Plaza (I think)

What does this actually mean?
Because I haven't met any more new Mii's as I still have the same amount, so I'm confused.

Is this ok, or is it something to worry about?

Start up Mii Plaza and then go to the Entrance to "meet" your company.

I went into Mii Plaza but there was nobody there that I had not met before

How do they follow your every move, I thought you only pick up new Mii's when passing nearby someone else with the 3ds on standby by chance
