Topic: I think Nintendo should revive the Game Boy line...

Don't get me wrong, the DS line is awesome. People aren't as impressed with dual screen technology as they were a decade ago, though. The 3DS is currently the best handheld out there, but it's somewhat underpowered compared to the PS Vita (even though I like the 3DS far more than the Vita). What I'm saying is that Nintendo should give us a handheld capable of HD display, a good internet browser like the Wii U, dual circle pads, gyroscope, an eShop with games as affordable as Apple's App Store, a single screen with touch-sensitivity, and I think it should be the next member in the Game Boy line. Many developers aren't even taking advantage of the touch screen anymore on the 3DS. I think that next year, Nintendo should reveal the next in the Game Boy line and it should be even more powerful than the PS Vita and as powerful as the Wii U, and it should have an amazing lineup of games like the 3DS, only better because it will have more technical capabilities.

For launch day, I think we should have a Super Mario Sunshine (or Super Mario Galaxy) remake, a new IP, a game where mainly Miis are playable, a few built-in games that take advantage of the next Game Boy's gyroscope, dual circle pads, and touch screen, and good third-party launch titles. There should also be an app where you can connect to the Wii U and play Wii U games on the new Game Boy and vice versa. There should also be an app released for the new Game Boy and the Wii U on the new Game Boy's launch day that allows you to record gameplay footage and upload it to the Nintendo Network or to your computer/YouTube. I haven't come up with a name for this next installment to the Game Boy line yet. What do you guys think? Do you want to see Nintendo end the DS line and revive the Game Boy line with a powerful new handheld?

...I'm rather indifferent. I'm nostalgic for the GameBoy brand, so I'd probably flip a s*** if they called the next system a GameBoy, haha! ...but if it's some sort of "DS", that's fine, too. I'd expect them to create an entirely different brand rather than going back to calling it a GameBoy, though.

I'm not sure. I like my 2D memories of the GB..... it wouldn't be as good if it was fancy with analog input and 3D models in HD... leave that for the DS it has no fond memories of a 2D handheld from childhood......

So you're asking Nintendo to make a Vita...

And how is that a bad thing? Although, Nintendo's Vita can never compare to the real deal.

I think Nintendo should make 2 handhelds, 1 for DS and the DS line has their respective games and then they make a GB line with their respective games (although consumers may be confused by this )

@Knux Like the VIta cant compare to the 3DS ? The Vita doesnt even play in the same league, the system is its own worst enemy.

@CatMarioUltra
"but it's somewhat underpowered compared to the PS Vita (even though I like the 3DS far more than the Vita)"
Then whats the problem with it ? This more then clearly shows that a systems processing power has nothing to do with how much you can enjoy it.

"What I'm saying is that Nintendo should give us a handheld capable of HD display, a good internet browser like the Wii U, dual circle pads, gyroscop"
Like @DarkwingLz said...you just want another Vita ? Sure, some of these things are nice to have, but you said it yourself, you like the 3DS as it is way more than the Vita, why should it be changed then ?

"an eShop with games as affordable as Apple's App Store"
"Games" on apples crap store are cheap because they are mostly rubbish. Making a game that is worth playing costs money. Asking any developer to sell it for a fistfull of dirt is like asking them to work for free.

"a single screen with touch-sensitivity"
Nintendo introduced the dual screen concept to home consoles with the WiiU, i dont think that they now start to abandon it all of a sudden.

"a game where mainly Miis are playable, a few built-in games that take advantage of the next Game Boy's gyroscope, dual circle pads, and touch screen, and good third-party launch titles"
You can do that already, but nobody is interested in it, why should that change with a new system ?

"There should also be an app where you can connect to the Wii U and play Wii U games on the new Game Boy and vice versa"
Again, much like the Vitas remote play, which barely works. And WiiU games with dual screen support are out of the picture from the getgo with such a handheld. Also, it would just be a more costly alternative to Off-TV play.

"There should also be an app released for the new Game Boy and the Wii U on the new Game Boy's launch day that allows you to record gameplay footage and upload it to the Nintendo Network or to your computer/YouTube"
I have no idea why people want to do that all the time, much like its implementation on the PS4, but thats a personal taste thing i guess.

All in all, i really dont like your concept. If you ask me, they should just improve on their working formular instead of starting from scratch.

Wasn't the DS supposed to be a third device, next to the GB line, for a different audience? As far as i remember, it was anounced like that. I think the huge success of the DS and the GB Micro flopping pretty much killed the Gameboy line.
But hey, if Nintendo is crazy enough to rerelease Urban Champion a million times, it could happen!

IGOR!

Eel

The 3/DS is little more than a better GB.

Why bother "reviving" an old line of products and compete with yourself when you can simply stick to the successor your already have?

@CorporalPegasus maybe it will be the "Urban Boy" and release with every Urban Champion port ever made built in!

not only that but also including an AR urban champion that is EXACTLY like all the other urban champions before(including background) but that only works if you point the camera at the AR card and let's not forget the "Urban of the week" every week a new version of urban champion will be released on it!

Certainly not. Nintendo's handhelds can't match the failure that is the Vita

I'm not sure about that as the 1st DS models had a Game Boy Advance slot on them.

Nintendo did the smart thing and didn't put all the eggs in a single basket at the time.

"So, um, hey guys! We made this new portable gaming console, but don't worry! If you don't like it we can always keep supporting the GBA! Did I mention you can always use it to play your GBA games?"

pst pst, they liked it

@einherjar amen! All your points are valid! Young people these days... Sheesh! If the 3DS is the hottest selling handheld in the world, why make sweeping changes? I'm tired of hearing all this nonsense about .99¢ games. It's as if high schools no longer teach economics.

Heh, personally I don't think so. Game boy had a good 15 years(?) run The DS line is selling like hotcakes.

Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.

@Platypus101 I say this as a console and game collector All this discussions about the price tag on VC games. These games offer almost perfect emulation with a crystal clear picture on HD TV sets and reliable controller support.
Ever tried to get a working SNES giving you the same kind of picture quality and also having a set of working controllers ? This alone can cost you more than getting a used Wii and some VC games
Not to mention some games. Try to get an Earthbound cartridge in good shape with a battery that will last long enough for you to enjoy the game more than once. Its the same old "i want everything, now AND for free" mentality.

other than the battery part(there's a trick to replace it) I agree completely with both your posts
