Three free plays today... first play was a fail. XD The other two went really well actually, since I switched to another machine. I got the Mii Mushroom launcher badge, and the Luigi Music launcher badge. Luckily I wanted both, (but I wanted the Luigi one more), since you needed to move the mushroom badge out of the way to get to Luigi. Two plays was just enough! Also got the 5 yarn balls for free like FriedSquid mentioned above.
I'm not a big fan of Kirby, but I will admit if a Bandanna Dee or Meta Knight badge comes out... it'll try to get it!
I had to really exercise my patience not to buy more plays the other day. I really wanted to get that Wind Waker Zelda badge, but failed many times. I finally got 3 free plays the last day it was available, and I messed them all up
My totally money spent on useless attempts for digital merchandise so far is $4, which I used to get all of the Splatoon badges, and there's no way I'm sinking any more money into this.
Oh, and if anyone cares what my home screen looks like right now, here it is:
Earlier today I got some more SMB badges, with three free plays. I got some badges I already had, as well as some bridge & water pieces, which I didn't have before.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
Dammit, I couldn't get enough free plays for Bowser, so I got some more fish. I went for the Angler, but 2 others dropped in, including this small white 'thing.' I guess it's a marine animal, but I dunno what it is. Wish I could've gotten more, but the other badges locked themselves in position right over the hole, forming a bridge. Darn...
@Klimbatize: Exactly. You don't have to worry about paying in order to get a healthy variety of badges. If you pay, it should be because you want a very specific badge or set of badges. I may have paid for my Splatoon badges, but I managed to get almost every Majora's Mask badge, a bunch of retro Mario badges, some Christmas Mario badges, a lot of animal crossing bugs, all of the Mario Party App-starters, a lot of Super Mario World badges, enough Pikmin badges, and a decent selection of Pokémon, all without paying a dollar.
Ugh, awful day. I don't care for Kirby one bit, and today has nothing BUT Kirby badges. I hope it's not going to be like this for a while. With my free plays today, I went for non Kirby stuff like this random elephant and a Rabite-lookalike. If it's going to be like this tomorrow, then I won't bother playing 'til something else appears.
I have a question. You know when you get a free play 'from the boss' and it kicks you straight to the machines so you can use it? If I leave the machines and play the practice catcher, do you keep that free play? It'd be nice if you could keep it and 'attach' it to the free plays from the catcher.

I don't think you can save your plays, but I think if you use the play, then do the practice catcher and get another play from that, and then go back to the real machines, I don't think the machines reset. So, if you only get one free play from "the boss", and want a badge that'll take at least two plays to get, I think it'll save the machine's progress while switching between the free play and the practice catcher. I'm not 100% sure, but this happened to me a couple days ago. I got a free play from "the boss", and did the switch trick before I used my play to get five yarn balls from the Woolly World set. Then I used my play, and unfortunaetly didn't get Luigi. I then did the practice catcher, got another free play, and went back to the real machines, only to find that the yarn balls were still missing from the Woolly World set.
In short, I think your free play from "the boss" must be used when given, but it saves the progress you made with that play if you decide to return to the real machines after using the practice catcher. Sorry if I'm wrong...
Oh yeah that's true, the machines don't reset if you move to another part of the "shop" so you can use your boss try to start one and then get more tries with the practice machine to finish it.
Also, on unrelated news, the bunny was added to Mario Maker.
I'd rather pay for the themes in the actual theme shop because you get music with them, but those themes don't interest me anyway so I wouldn't pay for them. It doesn't help that new themes now are $2.59 before tax. I got a free Mario underground theme through Badge Arcade but I never use it. I'm still waiting for SEGA to make themes for After Burner II and/or Out Run. They made themes for Space Harrier and Fantasy Zone, but nothing else. Lame.
I want lots of the themes Japan got, like those bajillion themes showing these cats, and Rascal Raccoon, but NA will never ever see those. sigh
Remember the practice catcher yesterday? Even with the hook, Nikki kept slipping off and stuff. Well today I used my free play on that exact same machine (I wanted the cute envelope badges) and amazing she managed to stay on, so I got the complete set.
Badge Arcade has become such a habit lately. Today, I won a free play going through the motions. Then he took me to the stage the practice area was based on, and I hit A again without thinking. I ended up getting some dumb Mario vs Donkey Kong floor tile.
Ugh, today's the last day to get Splatoon badges in Europe (I need to get the orange squid for a pattern I'm going with) and I already used up my free plays for the day... and said day is going to end in 10 minutes. And I can't spend any money...
