I live in the Columbus, OH area and preordered a New 3DS XL for myself. Of course my son wanted one as soon as he saw mine so I tried to track him down. Now before anyone asks why I didn't preorder one for him as well, he is a Pokemon fanatic and I didn't think he would want to part with his blue Pokemon X/Y edition 3DS XL. ALL the Gamestops, Walmarts, Best Buys, Targets and Meijers (local store similar to Walmart) around town are completely sold out of the system. Not hyperbole, I spent the better part of the afternoon calling around. The Gamestop manager at the store closest to me said that Nintendo only sent out enough to cover preorders and that if I wanted one I could order a red one (only red) and it would be shipped to my house by March 1st.

Luckily I was able to find one available at a local mom and pop store who matched the trade in deal that Gamestop is offering. So now my son and I are beating each other up in Super Smash Bros. and are on equal footing with the new control improvements thanks to the C-Stick... and we are bringing our amiibos with us.

Yeah, call me dumb but I though I was going to be able to pick up a physical copy as well......I mean, it's just an iteration, right?

Needless to say the night ended with me ordering a delivery via toys r us, lol.

I have seen several around here. You might have to wait a few weeks for restocking.

Ya, I pre ordered the MH4U new3DS XL but got impatient since it isn't arriving until Monday. So on the day of launch I started looking around to see where I could buy one at midnight, but they were sold out everywhere. I did end up calling the Walmart in a town nearby and they said they had two in stock for the midnight release. I was the only one who showed up but I imagine the other one sold pretty fast, probably the next day.

It kind of felt like a new hardware release to me. I mean, better graphics and several games all releasing the same day. Sure had that new hardware feel to it. And it still does, just by having a 2nd analog Cstick and super fast downloads and stable 3D. I think I was more excited for this than I was for the original 3DS.

I was shocked by the lack of availability as well. I too thought of this as more of an update release but after getting to play with one before launch I was honestly excited for the release. The super stable 3D is worth it for me. I have been playing my games in 3D since getting the New 3DS and am going back to try out old ones that I only played in 2D. The same goes for my son who never used the 3D because it gave him headaches. Now he is playing primarily in 3D.

I don't want to sound like an idiot but is he above 7 years?
I don't think Nintendo put a warning for kids out of nowhere.
I for myself take breaks as the new eye tracking needs abit get used to.
Of course that's just my opinion.
Wonder if others got new seeing experiences?

He is 10 but has owned a 3DS since age eight when he inherited my old launch console after I picked up an XL that had the Ambassador program transferred to it. As a parent I do monitor the time he spends in front of his devices and never worried about the 3D because he hated how it gave him a headache after only a couple minutes of use due to not being able to keep it in the sweet spot viewing angle. After the first day of playing with it he never turned it on, and when I upgraded him to a Pokemon X/Y XL he tried it again for a couple minutes and then refused to turn on the 3D... which is what I did as well. Neither of us have used the 3D much until this latest generation of the 3DS, now neither one of us have turned it off and he is going back through all our games trying out the 3D all over again, with his personal favorites being Kirby: Triple Threat and Mario Kart 7.

No worries on sounding like an idiot. We are just a geeky family that game together. A rarity these days.

Supplying everything in limited quantities is normal for Nintendo these days. If it makes people that much more obsessed to try to buy their products, then I guess it's worth it.
