The N3DS XL has the caps in the buttons colored (as you probably know) in the same order. The regular N3DS, yes has the buttons fully colored, what is prettier, yes. Anyway, the colors of the xbox are in a different sequence.
I have no complaint about the system outside of the screws, micro sd location, and the transfer process...........which was completely f--in stupid. How did that pass the testing process?
If I buy a 32 GB microSDHC, does it have to be formatted ...... using a computer ...... before I can use it in the new 3ds xl???
FYI - I don't have PC access.
32 gig is the max officially supported. Anything above that needs to be formatted.
So if I get a 32GB microSDHC card, I won't need to format it? That's good news!
Nope, everything that size and under already comes formatted in to fat32. Its everything above that for what ever reason that doesn't. I have a 64gig in mine so I had to format which isn't that hard but obviously you need pc access.

Thanks for the responses. For some reason I got a little paranoid when reading Nintendo's site on tested compatible microSDHC cards. Especially the text that reads "To optimize performance and ensure a consistent experience, all microSD cards and microSDHC cards should be formatted and configured for use with the New Nintendo 3DS XL system."
^ I figured I would need to format any card I got.
FYI - none of the tested cards on that site are at my local store. I'm going to get a SanDisk 32 GB Ultra micro SDHC card.
That should work just fine, right????

SanDisk imo are the best. I had your version in my old 3ds as a standard ad card. Now I have a 64gb micro SanDisk in my new one. Pretty much same model.
Yeah, that will work. Don't be paranoid about it, you're good!
Ok. I bought a New 3DS XL. The first wireless system transfer was a big failure. Woke up this morning and redid it.
(For some reason there were 1 of 6 steps in this process and it never progressed past step 1. Today, upon retrying, I noticed it was just 5 steps involved.)
My system transfer seemed to work properly this morning and all 5 steps were completed....rather quickly, I might say.
I spent all day re-downloading software. After three and a half hours of that I realized my save data was still on my old SD card. Could the sixth step have been to transfer my save data and somehow that got neglected?
Anyways, here is my question. If I go to my friend's house (who has a computer, unlike me) and stick my sd card in there and copy and paste my save data to my micro sd card...... will that solve my problem?
its been 24 hours since I bought this thing and it has been a complete nightmare for me

That might work. Just don't delete any of the data on the cards till you can tell if both merged on the computer correctly.

I'm kind of confused on the order of the steps I take to format my sdcard, transfer my data and then transferring my Nintendo ID over to my N3DSXL. What do I do first? I have a 64gb microsd card. Do I just follow these steps:
1. Format my new sdcard
2. Transfer data from the old card to new one
3. Transfer my Nintendo ID over to the nn3dsxl???
4. Done
Is that everything or am I missing something/doing something in the wrong order?

Keep the microSD with data on it in an adapter in the old (source) 3DS and do the transfer. Select "no" if you are using microSD (it states in the step). Then after the transfer, stick the card into the new 3DS
