Last time I used the Sword and Shield was in MHtri where I couldn't use the hunting horn at all.
There was this hunt where it took like 49 minutes to kill a Great Baggi because the blade constantly went dull and every hit bounced and it was a nightmare.
Never again.
Are you sure you're not playing the original Monster Hunter by mistake? I honestly feel as though that game's bad first impression forever left the Sword & Shield known as the terrible beginner weapon to be discarded as soon as humanly possible.
In every other game though, the SnS should be bouncing less than other weapons at the same sharpness. Context for your example would be nice: are you sure the particular SnS you used wasn't just underpowered for that point in the game, or an elemental mismatch? It's true that it dulls faster due to it's rapid hits, but that's even more true for dual blades and nobody complains about those.
Either way, the Mind's Eye oil in Generations means you never have to bounce again.
Hello all! I am a newbie (but long time fan of Nintendolife), and really love the Monster Hunter series
I was actually kind of wondering how active the MH community is? I am looking for a steady group of people to play with instead of relying on random strangers all the time....
HR5 btw! Moving relatively slow, but that's because I want to clear all quests before ranking up
@Cosima Tsurii, FattyWhale, Morpheel, OutCold, and I hunt fairly frequently. Unfortunately I don't know that any of us are near your rank: Morpheel is HR 1 and I believe the rest of us are 8+.
Edit: Morpheel is now HR 2. He wished I make that very clear. In related news, I am now 6 foot 4 and a half inches tall.

Yeah, but once you're HR 4 you can join the vast majority of quests. So it's basically a non-issue.
"Oh the first egg mission so far, it can't be that bad"
<some minutes later>
"Oh god oh god oh god this was a huge mistake"
Prepare to repeat the scenario three more times in the other villages.
Also, unless there's a subquest pertaining to it, hunting monsters not part of the main objective is generally a waste of time unless they die very quickly anyhow.

Ah, I see! Well, if you guys are ever up for some mindless questing, let me know! Otherwise, hopefully soon I will catch up with you guys!
Anyways, I have a different question. I am a Dual Blade user, and I have been switching between Striker and Aerial styles. Just out of curiosity, what type of style do you guys use if you use DB's?

When asking if Striker is good, it always revolves around the arts of the weapon, and in the case of Dual Blades, outside Blood Wind they're rather situational. That said it can still be very potent, if you don't mind chugging lots of dash juices.
Aerial's all right, cool-looking but otherwise pretty standard. Kind of awkward not having Demon Dance for toppled monsters, though... My favourites are just Guild for taking Blood Wind + another DB art that fits the quest, and adept for it's very slick counterattacks and repositioning.
@Meowpheel The quickest way to know if something does impact damage naturally is to bash something in the head with it. Get a yellow circle, it's impact.
I can't imagine DS without Wolf's Maw anymore....whenever a beast is down, it just feels so awesome to deal all those hits using Wolf's Maw + Blood Wind.
@Tsurii Does taking Blood Wind remove your demon X+A approach? No it doesn't, so why not use both?
That's like telling a Hammer not to use the fast-charging, KO-dealing Typhoon Trigger because they can already sort of do it with a moving level 3.
A lot of hunter arts are kind of bigger versions of existing attacks, really.
You mean Demon Dance? Sure, that works as well! Added benefit of Blood Wind is that - if necessary - you can always change direction between each spin, making sure you're out of the way of someone charging their attack I suppose.
