I understand where you're coming from regarding adept and Evade Extender, but I'd argue that it's still important for general mobility, especially in a party setting where you can't always guarantee attacks for you to dodge. There is also the issue that, unlike Adept LBG, you can't have your cake (power reload) and run with it too. I generally consider HBG Adept inferior to the former, especially considering it has only one really good art anyway (Full House). Heavy makes up for it with a superior Aerial, especially in XX where it gets power reloads just for vaulting (idk if Light gets this too).

I generally prefer having multiple arts for Heavy, since they are all quite useful. Sometimes this means I pick the siege-less Striker, usually against those where sieging is just a lost cause, but Guild is a nice compromise when it isn't.

Ok I was watching through my video (to make sure it turned out ok, it did, lol) and realized that I burrowed accidentally. Thought that was a special move, how do you do the normal burrow?

@Joeynator3000 With your weapon sheathed, hold R and press B while stationary. Unlike the Emergency Retreat version, it's slower and you're not invincible while digging down, but for both once you're under you are mostly invincible, but roars and tremors can force you out and stun you briefly. I like to use the regular burrow when Daimyos or Shoguns are using their own digging attacks. Your Palicoes will also dig down with you, avoiding unnecessary damage or possibly allowing you to "stealth" by an unwanted monster.

@Joeynator3000 People thought Gold Ceadeus' water beam attack was undodgable in 3U while I knew to hold R+B+up or down on the circle pad to shoot straight up or down with only minimal stamina use.
I seriously think nobody knew that it even existed in 3/3U.

The attack where he goes to the top corner of the area? I tried everything and he always hits me so I usually just sit there and take it. lol
(other beams I just block....because I have Glacial's armor. xD)

@Joeynator3000 He probably means the lateral water beam Goldbeard uses, as opposed to the vertical one. But honestly it's slow enough to dodge even with normal swimming.

The straight up or down swimming maneuver had some use, but was generally too slow for the heat of battle, especially considering the need to sheathe before you could use it. I only ever really used it to dodge Plesioth's underwater tail slaps.

Oh, yeah I never had any issues with his other beams, just that one.

The easy way for you guys to avoid Goldbeard's vertical beam in 3U is to invite me on the quest. Even when playing online, it always feels like he's only targeting me with that move.

Edit: I can't remember any lateral beams giving me problems. It's just the vertical ones that are trouble.

I just have issues with that one beam where he swims up to the top corner of the area. lol

@Joeynator3000 Yeah; the "swimming out of bounds into the top corner of the area" variation is the one that the vertical underwater maneuver easily dodges. Tons of threads back in the day were asking how to dodge it and everybody was saying it was impossible.

@meleebrawler I tended to use the forward+X attack on GL as my evade underwater.

Man, I almost want to go back to 3U again... now that I'm proficient with the SA I could probably blow through the rest of G-rank (got stuck on Sticky Situation, being a solo GL main) and slay Dire Miralis.

Situation is starting to remind me of Ukanlos's seemingly impossible to avoid swimming attack in 4th generation. xD

Anyways, close to getting to Goldbeard in 3U, so I'll try to remember that then. But I'm sure I've tried everything.

@meleebrawler ...Uh... you do know that you only have to beat one of each Deviant quest to unlock it, right? That earlier info was incorrect.
Sorry to be the one to kill the sense of accomplishment.

I think he's just getting ready for when XX makes it over here and he takes on Monday Morning Diablos. (yes I'm using Gajin's nickname for him, lol)

@Joeynator3000 Yes.
And the confirmed method of unlocking it in XX is completing one quest for every other Deviant. An earlier report said all of them, but it has been debunked.

Well, it was a good source of cash if nothing else, and at least I won't have to backtrack to high rank for any now if I change my mind for some of those weapons.

I've been working on the Drilltusk set recently. It's a good lancing set currently (bordering on great if you can manage that Adrenaline), but come XX it'll be an even better Gunlancing (and possibly also Charge Blade) set with the addition of Artillery Expert, which, in conjunction with Weakness Exploit, makes you an asset whether breaking tough parts or stabbing weak points.

Well, I mainly put Bludgeoner on it to leverage the increased sharpness depletion of gunlances into my favor, which gets my attack sky high with adrenaline, or Mind's Eye with lances since bouncing is the thing they hate the most. I consider Gourmand to be the real throwaway skill, it rarely seems to work for me.
