@BLP_Software What do you mean, again? No other Metroid game allowed melee attacks in humanoid form. The closest thing is the grapple lasso in Corruption, but that isn't really a normal attack. And Other M simply had you dodge and counter with shots.
Anyway, wouldn't it be a hoot if Metroid Prime was in as a secret boss for this game? Like a Chozo ''test'', using Samus's memories. The game even has the swappable beams to match.
@BLP_Software The thing is, even though the Prime series is placed between those two games as it makes the most sense (and allusions to the original in the first Prime), those games have never been referenced at all in other entries... to be fair, though, most of them did come out before Prime was even a thing.
Well, here's a semi-related bit of news; Milton Guasti, the one behind AM2R, was hired by Moon Studios, and is now working on Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
This alone makes me think Ori 2 will be better than the original, because AM2R was fantastic.
After finally seeing some gameplay with no commentary courtesy of Gamexplain... this game oddly seems to use quite a bit of music from the Prime series. The item and expansion jingles, the save station theme from Prime 3 as well that game's ship theme (though this one could be slightly remixed).
According to this IGN article, it seems that Samus Returns already comes with a Hard Mode that's accessible to all players after they complete the game for the first time. It turns out that the amiibo-exclusive Fusion Mode is an additional difficulty layer on top of Hard Mode.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
There's no way that Metroid New 3DS XL wasnt going to end up on my shelf.

@zyn I'm actually glad it doesn't as i'm buying the game anyway so at least the console isn't £30-£40 more expensive because of a digital copy pre-installed like the Majora Mask one.
Although I wouldn't have minded a physical copy bundled in that I could have shelved or sold on.
Now for some unfortunate news. According to a Game Informer interview with Sakamoto, the future of 2D Metroid will be determined by Metroid Samus Returns' sales.
@Grumblevolcano
Well, it is a really awesome looking Metroid on a very successful platform. If it doesn't sell well then I don't think 2D Metroid deserves another game, tbh.
But it'll sell well. Even people who have moved onto Switch are excited for this game. It was listed as a bestseller on Amazon, and it's gotten a lot of press and it's getting it's own amiibo and Limited Edition, even its own special edition hardware... Every Metroid game has typically sold between 1-2 million copies (excluding Prime 2 which didn't quite reach a million). I have no doubt that Samus Returns will do the same- in fact it may even do a little better simply because people have been crying out for a Metroid game for so long, and because everything about it just looks so perfect, and I think gamers today are a little more aware of great games than gamers were 10 years ago.
